"What radicalized you?"

Empathy, bro. Literally just wanting people to be treated like human beings

Argentina’s President Javier Milei deleted a post promoting the Solana-based meme coin LIBRA late Friday night, admitting he had not been fully informed about the project before sharing it with his 3.8 million followers.

“A few hours ago I posted a tweet, as I have countless times before, supporting an alleged private venture with which I obviously have no connection,” Milei wrote in a follow-up post. “I wasn’t informed of the project’s details, and after learning about them, I decided not to continue promoting it (that’s why I deleted the tweet).”

He then took aim at his critics, calling them “filthy rats of the political caste” and claiming their attacks only strengthened his resolve.

Following Milei’s retraction, LIBRA’s market cap crashed to $167 million, a staggering 96% drop from its $4.5 billion peak.

What Happened?
Milei’s original post had fueled a trading frenzy, with LIBRA surging to $4.50 per token before plummeting amid doubts over its legitimacy. Crypto analytics platform DexScreener recorded over $1.1 billion in trading volume in just a few hours.

LIBRA was marketed as part of the "Viva La Libertad Project," claiming it would boost Argentina’s economy by funding small businesses. However, skepticism grew over whether the initiative was a genuine investment opportunity or a pump-and-dump scheme.

A Repeat of Trump’s TRUMP Token?
The situation echoed the launch of former U.S. President Donald Trump’s meme coin, TRUMP, in January. Like LIBRA, Trump’s coin saw a rapid price surge as traders speculated on its legitimacy. Unlike LIBRA, however, TRUMP proved to be a legitimate token linked to the former president.

Despite the controversy, Bloomberg Línea confirmed that Milei did, in fact, post about LIBRA—though he later distanced himself from any direct involvement.
