📝 🇺🇸 🇬🇱 Greenland, much like Venezuela, is largely a dog-and-pony show. This is true even while acknowledging legitimate U.S. geostrategic interests in those countries. | CIG commentary
🇩🇰 Denmark itself is not a bad country. They've treated their people well enough that the right wing movements seen elsewhere don't have as much demand to exist in Denmark. They even went as far as attempting to sterilize the Greenlandic Inuits, which could have solidified Greenland as a white-majority country.
🔶️ As for throwing cold water on the Greenland hype train, the U.S. seizure of Greenland is mostly a formality, albeit some are rightly concerned that Greenland may see an increase in multiracial immigration. Realistically, the future of Greenland will remain the status quo under a COFA agreement, similar to former U.S. Pacific territories.
🔶️ Perhaps the only real change would be the return of additional U.S. military bases to Greenland, with a possible reactivation of Cold War/WWII-era infrastructure, as we saw in Puerto Rico.
🔶️ For the most part, what the U.S. wants from Greenland is already what it has. Chinese and Russian ships entering the Arctic are already being monitored, and the U.S. has been Greenland's security guarantor since WWII.
🔶️ In the short term, neither Greenland nor Venezuela is truly about seizing resources. It will take decades, and much difficulty, to extract what is demanded from these countries.
🔶️ Once again, the U.S.'s actions here are mostly for political points. Trump stated that he needed to win the midterms or face impeachment. Leaning into hyper-America imperium memes after his approval ratings were lowered due to the Epstein content and his failure to act on his promises is part of the game here.
🔶️ Now, should the U.S. seize Greenland? Much like the Panama Canal, sure, why not? The military infrastructure there is American and likely has permanent needs. Understandably, the dopamine hits from these actions are welcomed by fatigued masses looking to feel and see a win.
🎪 Finally, just don’t become too complacent with these mostly symbolic victories. The emphasis on defending the Western Hemisphere is a recontextualization of global withdrawal. It will benefit Americans more to remain vigilant in the long run: take the win, but don’t get addicted to the circus of small victories.

The USA already has a defence agreement with Denmark that gives them exclusive and full military access to Greenland. But they are not using it. They have downgraded their presence by 99%.
Now, apparently, they are telling their base that they need to invade and annex Greenland because they need to have a large military presence.

The US commander in chief has famously claimed that Greenland waters are teeming with Russian and Chinese vessels.
According to AIS data this is bollocks to speak European.
There are 8 Chinese and 0 Russian vessels in US waters, none in Greenland.

Canadian men are dropping like flies, and as usual, our collective government's have done somewhere between zero and nothing about it
