Does PPTP encrypt wifi traffic?
I share a wifi connection with a group of students. Some of these guys monitor the wifi traffic of other users for "fun". They make fun of the sites we visited i.e searches, websites, porn we watched etc. I have asked them to stop but they won't take it seriously. I am a very private person, so it makes me very uncomfortable; others don't mind this as much as I do. I can't afford a connection of my own so I have to do something to secure my traffic.I visit HTTPS sites only and completely avoid HTTP sites but still they found out my searches and sites that I visited. So now I am using a free VPN service (vpnreactor.com), unfortunately it only provides PPTP tunneling as a free service. Is PPTP enough to encrypt my internet/wifi traffic?

Anyone have a comprehensive list of security conferences
As a relative newbie in this space, any list of security conferences would be great.https://www.tripwire.com/state-of-security/security-awareness/top-10-information-security-conferences/This list has a few but not sure if that's everything as far as major conferences go. Thanks for the help.

If I want to eventually have a career in software security, should I start with programming?
I've always had a deep interest in software security, that I ignored for whatever reason. So, I've decided to stop ignoring it and start learning more. While my ultimate is to potentially get a career in that field, I'd still like to have a better understanding of software security, even if I don't get a job in that field. Although, I currently know very little, so I'm wondering if general programming is the best direction to start in.

Backups
I'm some what of a hypocondriac when it comes to account security. For everyone account I own I have a randomly generated long password no matter how much I value the account along with 2FA on all my accounts.I have all my passwords written down in real life and have encrypted copies of my passwords on my computer and phone. What other backup options are secure and would you reccomend?

Suggestions for a web interface for OSSEC?
Hey folks, I have an older version of OSSEC and I'm working on upgrading it. I see that in the newer versions they no longer offer their WUI... Does anyone know of some other interface for OSSEC that's available? I've found one by atomicorp and inquired with them, but I just want to see if there's anything else available... Free is great as I work for a small non-profit... I've searched around but haven't found anything as of yet...
