You like Hunt's Catsup Sauce? Their early recipe was a little too sweet for my taste. But when Hunt's Tomato Sauce came out in '59, I think they really came into their own, commercially and culinarily. The whole symphony of flavors has a deep umami savory depth, and a tanginess and sourness from the vinegar content that really gives the aftertaste a big boost. It's been compared to Heinz's, but I think Hunt's has a far better, subtle bitterness derived from the choice of spices. In '63, Hunt's released this; Pizza Flavor Catsup!, their most successful bottled sauce. I think their undisputed masterpiece is Hunt's Hickory Flavor Catsup. A taste so refreshing, most people probably don't taste it on it's own. But they should, because it's not just a great sauce to complement a meat barbeque with. It's also a personal statement about the culinary evolution of 20th century condiments themselves. I'm gay
