At the moment the polisher is highly unsafe. It is so dangerous that I don't feel comfortable giving out the plans. With that said, I already have a version 2 in the works which addresses the problems the current one has. (the exposed mains wiring is the least of its concerns...)

This is a list of features/changes for version 2:
* Use FEP film for the top instead of a sheet of glass with a hole drilled in it
* Replace the PVDF printed parts with stainless steel ones, preferably with them all being off-the-shelf.
* Switch to a brushless motor for the fan so it doesn't create sparks millimeters away from flammable solvent vapors.
* Do something to hide the exposed mains wiring
* Do more to keep the mains-powered PSU away from the solvent vapors
* Use a dedicated microcontroller controlling things. It will control the temperature of the heater as well as the power/frequency of the ultrasonic transducer.
* Add a screen for displaying stuff and maybe a buzzer/timer.
WHY DO I NEED TO GIVE ALL THIS BULLSHIT JUST TO BUY CHEMICALS WHY IS IT SUCH A PAIN IN THE ASS TO BUY CHEMICALS
Can anybody refer me to a private investigator firm? I need one that specializes in tracking people down, specifically that work in IT/software development related to financial services
I made a shirley temple like how it was originally served in the 30s/40s. It's freaking delicious with the real ingredients from the time.

A Shirley Temple is a an alcohol-free cocktail named after the famous child performer of the same name. It is made from ginger ale, grenadine, and a maraschino cherry. Shirley Temple (the girl) is known to very much dislike the drink, saying that it is much too sweet for her pallete.

I generally like drinks that are on the sweet side and I completely agree with her on this. However, and this is the reason I am writing this blogpost, the Shirley Temple you would be served today is completely different from how it would have been made in the 1930s!

All three of the ingredients in it have morphed over the years and are almost unrecognizable from how they would have tasted in ~1935 when it would have been served to the famous child actress.

Modern maraschino cherries are an unholy abomination of chemical treatments. They are white cherries that are chemically bleached and then re-impregnated with artificial vanilla, almond flavoring and FD&C Red 40. Fortunately it's pretty easy to source classically made ones. The real ones will be stored in an opaque dark red syrup. My recommendation is the ones made by luxardo.

Ginger ale, at least modern main-stream varieties doesn't even taste like ginger to me. I don't really have any brand recommendations here, just shop around for any that specifically does not list high-fructose corn syrup or "artificial flavors" on the ingredients.

Grenadine is the most interesting of the bunch and its story is a deep rabbit hole which I am still researching. As far as I can tell, its original formula dates back to the 1400s and was made from with Clove Pink that was soaked in red wine and simmered down. The original formula was lost in America and so people in the 1900s thought it was a syrup made from pomegranate. This, too, has gradually evolved back into something else over the years. The stuff you would buy at the liquor stores today is attempting to immitate the the original formula from the 1600s.
Regardless of what its ture flavor is supposed to be, I made my own grenadine with an extremely simple recipe that followed what an uncultured bartender might have made in the 30s. My grenadine is a 1:1 simple syrup made with store-bought pomegranate juice and raw sugar.

Well, okay Ran, how does it taste?

It is freaking delicious! This is now one of my favorite mixed drinks of all time and I couldn't recommend it more. It's considerably less sweet than how I remember it being served to me at boojey restaurants when I was a kid.

Something worth noting is that it would have been possible to make this drink if you lived in medieval Persa or a neighboring nation. While difficult, all of the ingredients would have been available at the time.

Why does the wifi on my laptop cut off when my neighbor is home?
Context:
I am using wifi and a bluetooth mouse with my laptop. The two mostly behave with each other, although the wifi bandwidth drops by about 50% when my bluetooth mouse is connected. I can't use the trackpad because the build quality of my laptop is so shit that it (literally) falls out if I look at it wrong.

Anyway, when my neighbor comes home from work the wifi drops to dialup speeds. Sometimes it gets so slow that I may as well not have wifi at all. It appears to be the fault of her phone. Whenever she pulls up in her driveway, her phone tries to connect to my laptop via bluetooth and a message pops up on my screen prompting me to enter a six digit code somewhere. Then, almost like clockwork, my wifi cuts out.

It's probably something to do with 2.4ghz/5ghz signal interference but I can't find anywhere in XFCE's UI to configure such things.

I don't know where I'm going with this. I'm not really asking for help.
My favorite filament company has shut down. The company in question is Printbed, here's their website: https://printbed.com

There was just something different about their colors. I can't put my finger on it, but even their basic color offerings were simply more vibrant than everybody else on the market. Their neon pink was particularly gorgeous with it being so bright it hurt to look at in direct sunlight. I will particularly miss their black cherry and bahama blue as well.
Their spools were also wound almost as good as Prusament's too.

They also sold a couple interesting composite blends. One of which being Acryblend, a mixture of PLA and PMMA (acrylic). This composite material had an absolutely beautiful surface finish and it's sad to see it no longer available.
Pic related, all my spools of filament from them.
Can someone who knows Romanian help translate something for me?
Rest in Peace Josh Saunders, AKA KingKobraJFS. You were always one of my favorite lolcows, despite me not following you very closely.

To honor his passing, I have mixed together an absolutely disgusting drink: 7-up, MSG and tobacco bitters. I was out of bacon bits so I had to improvise a bit. Mixing a disgusting cocktail is what his father requested us to do and I don't see anything more fitting.

All three batteries alkaline batteries leaked on this thing I made about six years ago. Not only this, but they all leaked out of BOTH ENDS! How on earth does this even happen?

Well, regardless, it's interesting that the anode side corroded everything blue whereas the cathode side corroded everything white and crusty.

This gizmo was the first PCB I had ever designed. It is a sort of tester that would let me compare all the different colors of LEDs that were available at the time. It was sort of an academic exercise so I could get used to KiCAD at the time. Anyway, I happened to have an exact spare of the battery holder in my junk bin so I was able to replace it and get it up and running again!
