I think western interest in WWII was mainly worried of the power of Stalin, and Stalin taking Europe, so Germany and Hitler were bolstered to weaken Stalin. Germany lost because it was crushed between the west and the east. The war ended between east and west due to exhaustion, and the western European lines were held. All post war Nazi propaganda was created by team Stalin, and the western allies adopted it without scrutiny.
