Trump is not going to seize power in a belated coup. Rather, the far-right convergence in DC this week is a means of building a base for the next round of street violence.
Conspiracy theories won't keep Trump in office—but they lay the groundwork to expand the fascist movement.
In this light, the liberal campaign to keep counter-protesters off the streets is especially irresponsible. They aim to consolidate their electoral victory to seize the initiative from last summer's ungovernable street movements, even if it means ceding the streets to fascists.
There are three sides in this struggle:
—nationalists + fascists
—anarchists + anti-fascists
—neoliberal centrists (including most Democrats and a few Republicans), who have very different concerns than those who will be worst impacted by the growing fascist street movement.
