There are alternatives to Discord!
Wikis are great for knowledge, and there are tons of ways to do chat and hanging out.
Of course, FOSS and maybe even self-hosted is best, but a Wikia (that can and will be externally archived) is still better than Discord, etc.
For chat, I'd suggest
Matrix (with Element probably being the easiest client for many, it has support for multi-chat spaces),
or if you're looking for something more Slack-like Mattermost and Zulip might be worth a look, but both need to be self-hosted (costs time and money).
For something Reddit-like, I've heard good things about kbin.
If you have other suggestions, please tell me!
