-There have been extremely few incidents of squirrels having rabies, such that they're considered a non-threat for its spread.
-Several species of squirrels (such as the Eastern Grey Squirrel) are considered essential in forest expansion and recovery, due to how frequently they bury nuts and seeds and forget about them, spreading them to places trees otherwise might not be able to.
