Trump has built ICE to be the shock troops with which to establish autocracy, but thanks to popular resistance, he is losing control of the narrative. Yet Democrats are already scheming to squander the advantage that Renee Good and Alex Pretti paid for with their lives. What ordinary people gain in the streets, politicians will sell away behind closed doors for their own personal gain.

No one is coming to save us! We have to win this for ourselves through grassroots direct action!

Cool thing for fellow Virginians: An otherwise conservative county (Hanover) rejected the building of an ICE facility after large-scale protests.

It's worth mentioning that this technically doesn't mean it *can't* be built b/c the federal government can more or less override local objections, but it does introduce obstacles, and is a great show of solidarity.

Porn and erotica are important and societally valuable forms of speech, and the defense of them, in the face of state and church attempts at repression, is a necessary political act.

^^ this, but also addressing the misogynistic angle of the first post:

Smut is more scandalous when it's women consuming it, due to the moral standards of purity that want women as sexual objects but disdain them as sexual subject, they mustn't desire but be desirable.
This, paired with the fact that content aimed at women (and especially teenagers or young adults) is always seen as lesser both in quality and value, and the increasingly blurred distinction between fiction and reality make booktok, especially the part talking about "dark romance", a big target for misogyny.

Related note: The perspective that there's absolutely nothing wrong with reading things that are low quality, even things that are "trashy," and the perspective that it's really, REALLY in your best interest to read things that challenge you absolutely can co-exist as well.
