An army determined to carry out a campaign of genocide against Israelis. Messages and calls began to flood in -pleas for rescue.

Israel failed that morning- a morning that will be remembered in infamy. It cannot fail again.

This war will end. But the reckoning with Hamas is not over, and will not be over, until they lay down their arms.
What they did that day, and how they dragged an entire region into hell, will not be forgotten. We remember. And we will remember, as Jews do.

Há exatos 730 dias, o mundo testemunhava o início do maior massacre antissemita desde o Holocausto. Aquele ataque desencadeou a maior guerra da história de Israel, marcada por muita dor e perdas irreparáveis tanto para os israelenses quanto para os palestinos; estes últimos, usados pelo Hamas como escudos humanos, enquanto os líderes do grupo vivem no luxo no exterior.

Lembrar aquela manhã fatídica é essencial: visitar simbolicamente os kibutzim, o Festival Nova, rever as imagens e ouvir os relatos das atrocidades cometidas... Não podemos esquecer.

Em 7 de outubro de 2023, terroristas do Hamas sequestraram 250 pessoas no sul de Israel, em sua maioria civis — inclusive estrangeiros. Dois anos depois, 48 deles seguem mantidos em cativeiro na Faixa de Gaza. Estima-se que cerca de apenas 20 estejam vivos.

Ao longo desse período, a Cruz Vermelha não fez uma visita sequer a esses reféns. Recentemente, houve mais manifestações em apoio a ativistas que tentaram entrar ilegalmente na Faixa de Gaza para se promover do que demandando a libertação imediata dos sequestrados pelo Hamas.

Nos últimos dias, com o avanço das negociações do plano de paz do presidente americano Donald Trump, há esperanças de que este pesadelo finalmente acabe. Enquanto isso, seguiremos lembrando de cada um desses nomes — até que todos estejam de volta!

Michel Nisembaum, Bruna Valeanu, Ranani Glazer, Karla Stelzer. Esses são os nomes dos brasileiros que foram vítimas do Hamas no massacre de 7 de outubro de 2023 em Israel.

Eles estão entre as cerca de 1.200 pessoas assassinadas e 250 sequestradas no ataque. Ao todo, há ainda 48 reféns em cativeiro, de diversas nacionalidades, muitos provavelmente já até sem vida.

Esse é um triste lembrete de que o Hamas é uma ameaça não só para Israel e os judeus, mas para a comunidade internacional como um todo. Está mais do que na hora de o mundo — inclusive o Brasil — reconhecer o Hamas como o grupo terrorista que ele é.

Nos últimos meses, Israel infligiu derrotas significativas ao regime iraniano e aos grupos terroristas por ele financiados. Isso mudou o Oriente Médio para sempre, havendo finalmente possibilidades reais de paz na região.

We will not rest, we will not be silent, until all 48 hostages are home.

As antisemitism surges like a tidal wave across the world, we stand shoulder to shoulder with Jewish communities everywhere.

Israel remains a beacon of freedom and democracy in a turbulent region, and I truly believe that out of the pain of these years, a new era of cooperation and shared prosperity can yet be born.

From the depths of grief we draw strength; from the ashes of tragedy we build renewal. The story of Israel is the story of resilience, of a people who will never give up, never give in, and never stop believing that light will overcome the darkness.

As President of Israel, I thank our friends and partners around the world for the many heartfelt messages of solidarity and remembrance as we mark two years since October 7, and I extend special thanks to @POTUS @realDonaldTrump for his incredible efforts to bring all our hostages home and bring peace to the Middle East. October 7, 2023 was a nightmare.
On October 8, we woke up to a new reality.
