Michael Smuss, the last known survivor of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, has passed away at the age of 99. His life was a testament to courage, survival, and the unbreakable spirit of the Jewish people. Even after enduring the darkest chapter of history, he chose to live with strength and dignity, sharing his story so the world would never forget. In recognition of his tireless efforts, he was awarded the Order of Merit, the highest honor given by the Federal Republic of Germany, for his contributions to Holocaust education.

Após 505 dias como refém do Hamas na Faixa de Gaza, o israelense Eliya Cohen ficou noivo de sua parceira Ziv. Antes de ser sequestrado, Eliya havia comprado um anel e planejava pedi-la em casamento, algo que só pôde realizar mais de dois anos depois, após sobreviver a condições extremas de cativeiro.

O casal estava no festival Nova, no sul de Israel, no dia 7 de outubro de 2023, onde ocorreu o ataque terrorista do Hamas . Durante todo o tempo em que esteve mantido em cativeiro, Eliya não soube se Ziv havia sobrevivido. Agora, livres e reunidos, eles celebram o que chamam de um reencontro impossível, símbolo de resistência, amor e esperança. Mazal tov!

Em reconhecimento aos seus incansáveis esforços, recebeu a Ordem do Mérito, a mais alta honraria concedida pela República Federal da Alemanha, por suas contribuições à educação sobre o Holocausto.
