Após dois anos em cativeiro na Faixa de Gaza, Alon Ohel foi libertado há pouco mais de duas semanas, no recente acordo de cessar-fogo entre Israel e Hamas. Seu pai, Kobi Ohel, contou em entrevista à rádio Galei Tzahal que o filho não quer ser chamado de “sobrevivente do cativeiro”, recusando uma possível identidade de vítima, porque deseja ser um símbolo de esperança. Ele quer ser conhecido por sua força e superação, e não pelo cativeiro.

Durante seu período na Faixa de Gaza, Alon viu imagens de uma manifestação em apoio aos reféns, nas quais desconhecidos seguravam sua foto. A cena o comoveu profundamente e o motivou a resistir. “Se eles não desistiram de mim, eu também não desistirei de mim mesmo”, pensou ele na época.

Em 27 de outubro, após exames médicos, Alon recebeu alta do Hospital Beilinson e agradeceu ao povo de Israel e a todos que trabalharam por sua libertação.

The Palestinian Authority told the world “pay for slay” was over. It wasn’t.
Palestinian Media Watch (PMW) uncovered that the Palestinian Authority quietly paid stipends to terrorists and families of “martyrs” despite Mahmoud Abbas’s February 2025 decree claiming to end the practice.

Screenshots shared by PMW show recipients discussing the deposits, partial payments matching what PA civil servants recently received. No public announcement. No transparency. Just quiet continuity.

For years, this system known as “pay for slay” has rewarded those who murder or attack Israelis with monthly salaries and benefits for their families, amounting to tens of millions of dollars each year.

Europe applauded Abbas’s supposed reform months ago. Now we see what it really was: a delay, not a change.
Terror still pays.

The orthopedic surgery was performed by shoulder surgeons Dr. Yoav Rosenthal, Dr. Mark Lovenberg, and Dr. Shay Ribenzaft.

The complex eye surgery was performed by Prof. Irit Bahar, Head of the Ophthalmology Division at Rabin Medical Center, and Dr. Asaf Dotan, Head of the Retina Unit.

"Today we performed a complex and exceptional eye surgery that was supposed to take place two years ago, two years during which Alon was held captive in Gaza under extremely harsh conditions.
Without medical care, in poor sanitary conditions, without sunlight, and suffering from starvation. When we realized a few days ago that it might still be possible to save the eye, it was a deeply moving and hopeful moment.
The surgery was successful, and in the coming days, we will know the extent of improvement in his vision".

Em entrevista à The National News no último dia 22, o Dr. Anwar Gargash, conselheiro diplomático do primeiro-ministro dos Emirados Árabes Unidos, afirmou que o país teve um papel importante na ajuda humanitária enviada para a Faixa de Gaza, a qual, inclusive, deve ser expandida. Nos últimos dois anos, eles destinaram US$ 2,57 bilhões em auxílio, o que representa cerca de 45% de toda a ajuda que chega à região.

Segundo Gargash, o esforço não se deve apenas à generosidade, mas também à capacidade diplomática dos Emirados de manter diálogo com Israel, o que garante acesso humanitário. Ele defendeu também que o foco agora deve ser uma visão política de longo prazo que olhe para o futuro.

É interessante observar que os países que mais contribuíram para aliviar o sofrimento dos civis no enclave palestino foram aqueles que estreitaram laços com Israel — não os que deterioram as relações com o país.
