O Papa Leão XIV mencionou recentemente "A Vida é Bela" como um de seus filmes favoritos. A obra é de 1997 e traz uma perspectiva peculiar sobre o Holocausto, tendo inclusive ganhado Oscar de melhor filme estrangeiro, de melhor trilha sonora e de melhor ator para o protagonista Roberto Benigni.

Por um lado, essa referência a um filme sobre o Holocausto neste momento é muito significativa, especialmente pelo marco dos 60 anos da Nostra Aetate, documento da Igreja Católica que repudia o antissemitismo. Por outro lado, no entanto, o filme que o Papa escolheu é bastante controverso, já que, para muitos sobreviventes, ele suaviza a realidade dos campos de concentração e mostra algo que seria impossível acontecer na realidade.

Em um momento de crescente antissemitismo, negacionismo e distorções sobre o Holocausto, obras assim podem prejudicar a preservação da memória desse crime histórico ocorrido na Segunda Guerra Mundial. Nesta semana, os ex-reféns israelenses Noa Argamani e Avinatan Or cumprem uma série de compromissos nos Estados Unidos para compartilhar seus depoimentos sobre o que passaram após os ataques de 7 de outubro de 2023 no festival Nova, quando foram sequestrados pelo grupo terrorista Hamas e levados para a Faixa de Gaza.

Uma das agendas foi na Assembleia Geral das Federações Judaicas da América do Norte, realizada em Washington D.C., cidade esta que, conforme diz carinhosamente Noa e Avinatan na legenda de uma foto, os tratou bem. Avinatan ficou em cativeiro por dois anos, voltando para casa apenas em outubro de 2025; Argamani foi resgatada pelas Forças de Defesa de Israel em junho de 2024, e, desde então, foi voz ativa pelo resgate dos demais reféns.

Eles seguem buscando superar o que viveram nas mãos do Hamas e usando seus testemunhos para mostrar o que o grupo terrorista é capaz. O 7 de Outubro não pode ser esquecido.
