Exposing the Toxic Development Community of the G54

Hello, I would like to highlight some points about the Moto G54 development community, which unfortunately has been becoming increasingly toxic and restrictive. I am not referring to regular users, but rather to that group that positions itself as the “guardians” of development, imposing rules and limiting the freedom of other developers — especially @cyberknight777, who has been protected and encouraged despite toxic behavior.

1. Open Source Is Not a Closed Club
Android and its device trees are open source. Claiming that “this is not for everyone” or imposing rigid terms for the creation of custom ROMs makes no sense. The only fair requirement should be giving proper credit to the original author — never building artificial barriers.


2. Shielding Certain Developers
Much of this community has been “protecting” Cyber (@cyberknight777) only because he created a device tree. However, once the code is in a public repository, it belongs to the community as a whole, not to a single individual.


3. Creative Freedom Is Essential
Forcing developers to follow specific standards or preventing them from creating ROMs the way they want is unfair and harmful. Each dev must have the freedom to compile, modify, and share in the way they see fit.


4. On Bugs and Perfection
No one is obligated to fix all bugs or deliver a perfect ROM. Developers share their work voluntarily. Demanding “perfection” suffocates the collaborative spirit that open source should encourage.


5. Security Is the User’s Responsibility
The “security” argument does not hold up. Once the bootloader is unlocked, the risks are entirely on the user. Limiting what can be done under this justification is unfounded.


6. Extra Features Are Not Obligations
Features like Moto Actions or proprietary functions are nobody’s obligation. A dev creates the ROM primarily for themselves, and if they decide to share, it is a bonus for the community. Forcing such features is crossing the line.


7. Recovery: The Real Prison
Another absurd point is the attempt to lock the G54 to the “AOSP recovery,” disregarding solutions like TWRP or OrangeFox under the claim that they are “outdated” or “unsuitable for modern devices.” This is false. These recoveries are far more complete and useful than AOSP recovery, and restricting their use is an unreasonable limitation.


8. Resistance Against This Prison
Fortunately, some independent developers refused to accept this prison and are creating custom ROMs, TWRP, and OrangeFox builds privately, precisely to escape the control of this toxic community. This proves that the G54 has enormous potential and should not be limited by arbitrary impositions.



👉 In summary: the G54 development community should be a space for collaboration, but it has turned into a toxic, controlling, and restrictive environment. The true spirit of open source is freedom, credit, and innovation — not censorship, favoritism, or dictatorship over how others should work.
