📌 Using BIM to Retrofit Existing Buildings

🔺A B S T R A C T
A large number of ongoing research programs are looking into the implementation of Building Information Modelling (BIM) platforms to optimize design and construction processes. BIM based tools (e.g., Bentley AECOsim Building Designer, Tekla Structures, Autodesk Revit’s Architecture, Structure, MEP, and Navisworks) can handle numerous types of data input (e.g., 3-D design, energy models, schedules, cost estimates) and offer rigorous simulation and visualization options in an integrated manner allowing engineers and contractors to track and control their projects effectively. A similar set of research projects are investigating the use of sustainability principles (e.g., waste reduction, energy savings, healthy indoor environment) to optimize the management of projects throughout design and construction. The link between BIM and sustainability has been flagged in the literature especially in energy-driven retrofits. Nonetheless, the application of BIM to retrofit existing buildings faces challenges which could be due to the multi-disciplinary nature of information exchange, the timeliness of the exchange, and the wide array of technological components that are needed to ensure an optimal exchange. This paper describes, through a critical review of the literature, the areas which are mostly covered under BIM and sustainability. The purpose of this paper is to examine the overlap between the two topics where BIM offers a platform for reducing energy consumption in existing buildings. Finally, a research agenda on enhancing the role of BIM in energy-driven renovations is proposed.

BIM is representing a shift in the traditional process of building delivery. Its adoption in US reached 71% in 2012 rising from 17% in 2007; moreover, Europe is going to adopt BIM for public contracting as promoted by the European Union Public Procurement Directive. Meanwhile, BIM is widely diffused in UK and Northern Europe, as it includes a more accurate documentation, less rework and shorter project timelines. The use of BIM to provide data for energy performance evaluation and sustainability assessment is defined Green BIM and pioneering design organizations are adopting this approach to enable integrated design, construction and maintenance towards Net Zero Energy buildings. Green BIM includes Building Energy Modelling dealing with project energy performance to identify options optimising building energy efficiency during the life cycle. By allowing revisions during the design phase, project teams can ensure that customers’ green ambitions beyond regulation compliance can be realized, together with technical and economic requirements. Thus, BIM can provide information to support the calculation of a number of credit points to define goal levels of sustainability related to rating systems. The aim of the paper is to investigate the opportunity to include the “green dimension” in BIM considering the more diffused rating systems.

✅ هند سال گذشته با پشت سر گذاشتن ژاپن، چین و آمریکا توانست به چهارمین بازار بزرگ انرژی خورشیدی جهان تبدیل شود. این در حالیست که نارندرا مودی نخست وزیر این کشور هدف تولید 100 گیگا وات برق از منابع خورشیدی در سال 2022 را مطرح کرده است.
✅ دهلی نو در حال حاضر بر روی ساخت یک پارک خورشیدی وسیع به نام پاواگادا در جنوب این کشور کار می کند که انتظار می رود پس از بهره برداری با تولید دو هزار مگاوات، بزرگترین ایستگاه نیروی برق خورشیدی جهان باشد.
✅ ساخت این نیروگاه های خورشیدی تنها بخشی از برنامه های هند برای مطرح کردن خود به عنوان یک قطب اصلی مبارزه با آلودگی های کره زمین در غیاب آمریکا است. واشنگتن با نادیده گرفتن توصیه های کارشناسان سال گذشته با دستور مستقیم دونالد ترامپ رئیس جمهوری این کشور تصمیم گرفت از معاهده بین المللی آب و هوا خارج شود.
