📌 The Effect of School Design on Student Performance

🔺ABSTRACT
The present study aims at exploring the influence of school design on student performance. The participants consisted of 150 students who studied at two Iranian public school and private school in Mashhad City. School Design and Planning Laboratory (SDPL) model of Georgia University (and Tanner (2009)) was used as an appraisal indicator of school design and some of its design characteristics such as unrestricted and functional views, indoor and outdoor spaces, and natural life were explained to students. In addition, student performance, defined by the average of their final achievement scores, was compared to measures of school environmental characteristics. To this end, design characteristics of these schools and students’ performances have been studied. Quantitative data, subjected to a set of denoscriptive statistics, showed that school design was a strong factor for students of private school. In fact, the finding indicated that characteristics of physical learning space and deign of private school had fundamental effects on student performance. That is, learning space as a strong component can motivate students to study and progress.

📌 BIM-based design of residential apartment
🔺 A B S T R A C T
The purpose of this thesis was to create a model of the two-level apartment with program Revit Autodesk for company NCC. The apartment is situated in the housing complex Skandi Klubb, which is being built in Saint-Petersburg.
The model was made for commercial purposes, in order to speed up the selling process of this apartment, as the most expensive one.
The second purpose was to describe basics of BIM and Revit program.
The thesis is divided into two main parts: theoretical and practical. In the theoretical part the characteristics and main functions of Revit were considered. Also this part explains the concept of BIM. For writing these parts the books as well as internet resources were analyzed.
In the practical part the main steps of creating the model were described. Also the opinion of people about this model was considered.
As the result, the main characteristics of Revit program and BIM were discovered. The model of apartment was shown to the possible customers and get good reviews.

Taking the soundscape approach to a study of the Library of Birmingham, this paper explored acoustic comfort in modern public libraries and measured the qualityoftheperceivedsoundenvironment,focusingon the appropriateness of the spatial organisation to facilitateusers’activitiesofreadingandwriting.Theresearch involved four groups of participants taking soundwalks which provided data at four main floors in the Library, identifying types of sounds, measuring sound pressure levelsandevaluatingtheoverallqualityandappropriateness of perceived sound environment. A human sound dominated sound environment was found in the studied case. The overall soundscape quality varied among different levels and different functional spaces. However, the results showed that the overall soundscape quality of each floor varied and was not necessarily determined bytheoverallappropriatenessandsoundpressurelevel. The participants in the study were found influenced by their soundscape cognitions of spaces through visualand acoustic perceptions, as well as by their purposes of using thespace. From these results, the layout of spaces is suggested as a determining factor of acoustic comfort, and design strategies were discussed to achieve acoustic comfort in modern public libraries.
