While with my guests after an inauguration event in DC, I unexpectedly ran into a group of @UTHighwayPatrol officers. They were on loan to provide security for the event, & we got to chat for as long as the freezing temperatures allowed. A great group of officers & a welcome conversation! #utpol
UT is known for having the Greatest Snow on Earth, & skiing is a critical component of our local economy. That is why I introduced the SHRED Act to allow local National Forests to retain a portion of annual fees paid by ski areas operating on Forest Service lands. By allowing these fees to be used for maintenance & improvements, we can ensure these funds directly benefit Utah & other western states. #utpol
As the west continues to struggle with devastating wildfires, we must bolster our wildfire mitigation research, forest management, & watershed projects. That is why I joined my UT Delegation colleagues in introducing the Utah Wildfire Research Institute Act which will establish a wildfire research institute at @USUAggies where experts & officials can come together & create innovative solutions to keep our forests & communities safe. #utpol
It was an honor to attend President Trump’s Joint Session tonight. He and his administration have swiftly responded to the call of Americans to secure our border, unleash domestic energy production, address rampant crime, tackle the difficult task to root out waste, fraud, and abuse in our government, and more. There is much to do legislatively in the coming months to ensure a strong economy and defense, and I look forward to working with the Trump administration to accomplish this agenda.
Just minutes before @POTUS announced the 90-day pause on the admin’s reciprocal tariff plan, I questioned @USTradeRep Jamieson Greer on the implications of tariffs on our global advantage in services, our edge in the AI race, and our national security.
I also asked about impacts on our local businesses, such as the Sports Den in SLC, that could potentially never recover from heightened tariffs.
I remain supportive of targeted and aggressive tariffs on our adversaries in strategic sectors, but I share in my constituents’ concerns that the economic realities could harm local business growth, raise prices on working class families, hurt retirement and 529 accounts, and trigger a recession.
I thank Ambassador Greer for his time and will be vigilantly watching what this pause does for our trade landscape.

Lawmakers push to preserve University of Utah's research park
All six members of Utah’s congressional delegation signed on to the bill seeking to preserve nearly 600 acres of federal land used for education, recreation and other purposes.
I had the privilege of joining the Utah Air National Guard for an aerial refueling flight aboard a KC-135 tanker and visited both the cockpit and refueling bay while the guard refueled fighter jets from @HAFB. Witnessing this display of military capability happening right here at home was an incredible experience.
