Today, we established a Safe Zone for Democracy in front of the Turkish Embassy in Vienna – a symbol for long-term, democratic solutions for Syria and the region:
Yet while solidarity is being expressed here, Austria is talking about deportations. This is absurd and not the path to a just future. Instead, the focus should be on the democratic self-administration in Northeast Syria, the strengthening of women’s rights, and the fundamental right of all people to live self-determined and in safety.
The Turkish attacks on Rojava and civilian infrastructure highlight why we are here: Against war, displacement, and destruction – for peace, democracy, and ecological justice.
The struggles for a better world are interconnected, and today we showed: We stand in solidarity. We fight together!

Of the mercenaries who took part in the attacks on Manbij, 415 have been identified as former ISIS members, confirming the direct links between Turkey and this Islamic organisation.
With more than 2,000 bombs and more than 500 strikes on Syria in one week, the Israeli army is said to have destroyed 80% of the arsenal of the Syrian state's armed forces.
Even if the situation in Kobanê remains calm, signs are mounting that Turkey and its mercenary forces are about to launch a new offensive. The Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (DAANES) has announced a Syrian dialogue initiative to build the "New Syria”.
The Arab youth movement, together with the young Ezîdî, marched in Şengal (northern Iraq) in support of the resistance of the peoples of Rojava.

📝Situational Update 17.12.24 End of the ceasefire announced by the SNA/Turkey. Turkey prepares to attack Kobane
Kobane
Yesterday, tens of thousands of people in Kobane protested against the impending attack on their land. A few days before YPJ commander Rohilat Afrin said "How we defeated ISIS in Kobane, we will defeat Turkey as well"
For days, there have been increasing reports that a large-scale attack on Kobane is imminent. Turkish media are openly announcing this. We see videos of SNA convoys, already camouflaged with mud, gathering on the west side of the Euphrates.
Kobane is on the Syrian-Turkish border. Only a border wall and a militarily closed strip seperates the city from Turkey. This means that there is also a risk of a direct, cross-border attack. Throughout the last week, Turkey bombed Kobane and mobilized military forces along the border.
Negotiations
Since 9 Dec negotiations between the SDF, SNA, Turkey and the USA have been ongoing. On 11 Dec a ceasefire at the Tishrin Dam and a withdrawal of all military forces from the city of Minbic was agreed but the SNA immediately broke this and have since attacked the Tishreen Dam and Qarqozak Bridge, which the SNA want to cross the Euphrates in the direction of Kobane.
All eyes are on the dam and the bridge. The SDF repelled the attacks and the SNA suffered over 230 casualties.
Future escalations - US, HTS and Turkish relations and aims
Due to the air supremacy of the Turkish Air Force, which covers the attacks of the SNA, the lines of defense are flexible and the methods of the self-defense forces are diverse. In the open field, they operate in small teams using guerrilla tactics. The warfare therefore does not correspond to classic warfare with static front lines.
Whether the war will escalate further also depends on the USA. While the US cooperates militarily with the SDF as part of the anti-ISIS coalition, the US controls large parts of the airspace over northern Syria and have been keeping the airspace open to the Turkish air force for weeks. They also enabled the occupation of Girê Spî and Serêkaniyê in 2019.
Whether Turkey itself will attack Rojava with ground troops depends on whether the USA opens the way. The USA is currently trying to show the world that it is still on the side of the SDF. US military personnel have publicly positioned themselves in Kobane, where they are still present. The situation could look very different again tomorrow. After Trump's inauguration on January 20, 2025 at the latest, the question of whether the US military will remain in Syria will arise.
Erdogan announced that if it is the wish of the new Syrian government, Turkey will provide it with military training. It is still unclear to what extent the HTS will position itself more independently of Turkey in the future. But we know the “new Syria” will be under the influence of Turkey and states such as Qatar.
In the ongoing conflict, international media are constantly producing false reports. Turkish media are sharing videos of torture by the SDF and the Qatar-based TV channel Al-Jazeera is also reflecting the interests of the respective states. Disinformation” is therefore an important weapon in the ongoing war.
Numerous European countries have also announced their intention to deport Syrian citizens now that Assad has fallen. So the political legitimization of the new government in Damascus looks certain. The extent to which the Autonmous Administraion will be granted autonomy is unclear. Although the HTS has announced that it will tolerate minorities, it wants to subordinate everything to the central state power.
Join us, RiseUp4Rojava
There is a chance for a peaceful solution and a more democratic Syria, as well as the danger of an absolute escalation on all fronts. Last weekend, demonstrations and actions took place in over 50 cities and showed that people all over the world are standing by the side of self-government.
Let's move, no attack goes unanswered!

📝MORNING REPORT - 18.12.24📝
As per US Department of State, the Syrian Democratic Forces – Turkey/Syrian National Army ceasefire has now been extended to the end of the week.
The SDF's Manbij Military Council has reported however, that an other SNA attack this afternoon led to two hours of clashes on the Tishreen Dam, following days of uninterrupted confrontation.
SDF Commander-in-Chief, Mazloum Abdi showed its readiness to propose "a demilitarized zone in the city of Kobane, with the redistribution of security forces under American supervision and presence" aiming to "address Turkey's security concerns and ensure lasting stability."

NEW SDF STATEMENT
Syria has entered a new phase.
The Turkish occupation persists, and its latest plan is to attack the city of Kobani. The ultimate goal is to occupy all of Syrian territory and annex it to Turkey.
Kurdish and Arab youth, and all our people, must recognize these dangers. The time has come for young people to flock to the SDF, row by row.
We call upon all the peoples of the Middle East, the world, revolutionary allies, friends, democratic figures, and freedom seekers to stand with the people of Kobani and the SDF. We urge them to honor the spirit of November 1st, which once again protected the world from the dangers of ISIS and its allies. This spirit will continue to play a crucial role in building a democratic and free Syria.
