Guerrilla announces to lay down arms while Turkish attacks continue

Despite ceasefire and announcement by the Guerrilla to symbolically lay down arms airstrikes, shelling and attacks continue. Since the ceasefire announcement on March 1 the Turkish forces have increased there attacks on the Medya Defence Zones in the Mountains of Kurdistan.

According to various sources a formal weapon handover ceremony involving approximately 20 guerrillas will be held in the Sulaymaniyah region under PUK control between the 10-12 July,

Today a group of guerrilla will lay down their weapon and destroy them.

This follows the "Call for Peace and Democratic Society" of Abdullah Ocalan and the dissolution of PKK and shows the commitment of the freedom movements toward peace.

Around 150 people arrived today from Amed (Diyarbakir) to Sulaymaniyah for the cerimony that is set to take place today. The groups includes politicians of kurdish parties, journalists and representatives of the association of the families of detained people.

The delegation of the DEM party is arrived now at the site decided for the ceremony, close to Sulaymaniyah. We expect the press conference will soon start and a public announce will follow.

The weapons have been destroyed

The members of "Group for Peace and Democratic Society" released its statement from the ceremony.

The ceremony was broadcast publicly, saw the participation of many peoples as well as the leadership of the party in the persons of Bese Hozat and Nedim Seven.

The guerrilla who burned their own weapons today, called the Group for Peace and Democratic Society, shared their statement.

"We hope that everyone - the youth and women, laborers and workers, socialist & democratic forces, all the peoples, and humanity - will observe, comprehend, and appreciate the historic value of our step for peace and democracy"

The guerrilla ended their speech with the message;

"Oppression and exploitation will end; freedom and solidarity will prevail.
The process of “Peace and Democratic Society” will surely succeed."

During the current attacks against the Druze people, Fewziye Fexredîn El Şaranî defended her community in El Dor. After killing 7 attackers she also fell. We remember her and all fighting women and mothers with great honour, knowing that women's spirit of resistance is unbreakable.

The gangs of the Syrian Interim Government have withdrawn from Suweyda.

This withdraw is a victory of the Druze people. This example shows that, as it is so often the case, when the people organise and resist, they cannot be defeated. The will of the people cannot be broken by weapons. Above all, the unity of women, especially against the mentality of killing that has emerged in recent days, is proving to be the strongest means of resistance.
We offer our deepest condolences to the families of the martyrs and wish a speedy recovery for the wounded. Hand in hand we will work to build a decentralised, democratic, pluralistic Syria.

Druze are under attack by Syrian government forces and its proxies, and under Jolani, all of Syria's minorities are at risk.
