Sons of Liberty

The Sons of Liberty were a secret, loosely organized political group in the Thirteen Colonies that was founded in Boston in August 1765 by Samuel Adams and John Hancock. Their goal was to fight against British taxation and to advance the rights of the colonists. The Sons of Liberty used civil disobedience, threats, and sometimes violence to intimidate loyalists and anger the British government. Their actions included inciting riots in Boston after the Stamp Act was passed, targeting tax collectors and taxable goods. The Sons of Liberty's goal was to pressure moderate colonial leaders into confronting the British Crown, and they are considered a precursor to the American Revolution.

The Sons of Liberty met in secret locations, including under the "Liberty Tree" in Hanover Square, Boston, and under the "Liberty Pole" in New York. They also met in taverns that supported the Patriot cause, such as the Green Dragon Tavern in Boston.

Some famous Sons of Liberty include:
Samuel Adams, Benedict Arnold, John Hancock, Patrick Henry, James Otis, Jr, Paul Revere, James Swan, Alexander McDougall, Benjamin Rush, and Charles Thomson.

A young man named Chuck bought a horse from a farmer for $250, and the farmer agreed to deliver it the next day.
The following day, the farmer arrived at Chuck's house and said, "Sorry, but I have some bad news—the horse died."
Chuck replied, "Well, then just give me my money back."
The farmer said, "I can’t do that. I already spent the money."
Chuck said, "Okay, then just bring me the dead horse."
The farmer asked, "What are you going to do with it?"
Chuck said, "I’m going to raffle it off."
The farmer said, "You can’t raffle off a dead horse!"
Chuck said, "Sure I can. Watch me. I just won’t tell anyone it’s dead."
A month later, the farmer ran into Chuck and asked, "What happened with that dead horse?"
Chuck said, "I raffled it off. I sold 500 tickets at five dollars each and made a profit of $2,495."
The farmer asked, "Didn’t anyone complain?"
Chuck said, "Just the guy who won. So I gave him his five dollars back."
Chuck grew up and now works for the government.
