📆 On May 25-27, Mineralnie Vody will host the Caucasus Investment Forum 2025.

Its central theme will be "Investment Path: Past. Present. Future".

The Forum will become a platform for negotiations and conclusion of business contracts for the purpose of developing investment projects and public-private partnerships in Russian regions.

Its business programme will be attended by heads of government bodies, representatives of Russian and international companies, mass media, youth and scientific communities.

Particular attention will be paid to the role of the North Caucasus as a strategic transport hub connecting Eurasia, India and the Middle East via the International North–South Transport Corridor. Participants will be presented with projects aimed at developing the region's infrastructure and transforming it into a key export hub for Russia.

This year, about 50 business events are expected. During the sessions, experts will discuss the following topics:

🔹 digitalization;
🔹 preservation of historical memory amid the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War;

🔹 tourism.

Participation in the Forum provides an opportunity not only to gain access to new investment flows, but also to conclude partnership agreements with industry leaders.

🗺 The International North-South Transport Corridor is a 7,200-km long multi-mode route from St Petersburg in Russia to the port of Mumbai in India.

🇷🇺🇮🇳🇮🇷 The intergovernmental agreement, which was later joined by other countries, was initially signed between Russia, Iran and India during the Second International Euro-Asian Conference on Transport held in St Petersburg in September 2000.

3️⃣ There are three INSCT routes: trans-Caspian (using railways and ports), as well as Western and Eastern ones (land), bending around the Caspian Sea.

❗️ The main advantage of this corridor over other routes, in particular, over the sea one through the Suez Canal, is that the transportation distance is reduced by two or more times.

☝🏻 For Russia, the INSTC remains one of the key areas of transport and logistics cooperation with India, in particular, as part of both countries’ efforts to expand and diversify bilateral trade.

"Certainly, the North-South Corridor is of major importance. It is already operational, and freight traffic volumes along this Corridor are constantly growing."

‘Aurora’: the most legendary ship of the Russian fleet

Few ships have survived what the cruiser ‘Aurora’ went through. In October 1904, it almost started a war against Great Britain.

The ‘Aurora’ was sailing from the Baltic Sea to the Far East as part of the 2nd Pacific Squadron to fight the Japanese. Near the British Isles, Russian ships mistook English fishing trawlers for enemy destroyers in the fog and fired at them.

The so-called ‘Hull Incident’ outraged British society and the local press dubbed the Russians “pirates” and “a fleet of madmen”. Thanks to the efforts of diplomats from the two empires, war was avoided.

Having reached the Far East, the 2nd Pacific Squadron “got out of the frying pan and into the fire”. At the end of May 1905, it was completely destroyed near the Japanese island of Tsushima.

The ‘Aurora’ miraculously managed to escape and reach Manila, where it was interned. After the conclusion of peace, the ship returned to Russia.

During World War I, the cruiser took part in military operations in the Baltic Sea, but its finest hour was during the October Revolution of 1917. On November 7, it fired a blank shot, which became the signal for the Bolsheviks to storm the Winter Palace, where the Provisional Government was meeting.

During World War II, the ‘Aurora’ took part in the defense of Leningrad. In 1948, the ship was permanently moored at the Petrograd Embankment.

Today, the ‘Aurora’ is a floating museum and one of the main symbols of St. Petersburg. No excursion around the city is complete without a visit to this legendary ship.
