Присоединение Норвегии ко всем антироссийским санкциям ЕС, ее старательное участие в военных приготовлениях НАТО у границ России и западной политике «сдерживания» нашей страны практически до основания разрушили архитектуру двусторонних отношений.
Декларируя приверженность международному праву и центральной роли ООН, Норвегия на деле является поборником западной концепции «международного порядка, основанного на правилах» и «кирпичиком» в натоцентричной системе безопасности в Евро-Атлантике.
Вторя старшим союзникам по НАТО, Осло категорически отвергает российские предложения по формированию более справедливого мироустройства, а также архитектуры равной и неделимой безопасности в Европе с гарантиями безопасности для всех государств-участников ОБСЕ. Называет их ревизионистскими требованиями.
После начала специальной военной операции России на Украине норвежские власти «за день» пересмотрели до того непреложную на протяжении более чем 60 лет национальную политику в сфере экспортного контроля продукции военного назначения и начали поставки летальных вооружений в зону конфликта, включая ракеты и артиллерию, противотанковые и зенитные комплексы, дроны, бронемашины, тысячи боеприпасов.
Сейчас дело дошло до танков. Кроме того, норвежцы участвуют в подготовке военнослужащих ВСУ на территории Норвегии и других европейских стран.
Поставки летальных вооружений – важная черта. Это не слова, не политико-дипломатические жесты и даже не экономические рестрикции.
В отсутствие прямой военной угрозы своей безопасности со стороны России (а этот факт норвежскими властями признается) Норвегия тем не менее вооружает и обучает людей, которые убивают россиян – военных и гражданских. Открыто ставится задача нанесения нашей стране «стратегического поражения».
У России разная, во многих случаях сложная история отношений со многими соседями. Однако Норвегия до недавнего времени была в этом плане исключением. За тысячелетнюю историю добрососедства между нашими народами Россия никогда не обращала своего оружия в сторону Норвегии, кроме как для того, чтобы освободить Восточный Финнмарк от оккупации нацистской Германией. То, как нам за это теперь отплатили, трудно воспринимать иначе, как несправедливость и предательство.
После утверждения пятилетней программы помощи Украине, которая эксплуатирует и порочит имя уважаемого в России Ф.Нансена, Норвегия на годы вперед станет одним из лидеров по содействию военной «накачке» киевского режима.
На приверженность Осло деструктивному конфронтационному курсу НАТО, готовность ввязаться вслед за союзниками в очередную военную авантюру не повлияли оглушительные провалы силовых интервенций альянса в Афганистане, Ираке и Ливии, а бомбардировки Югославии до сих пор рассматриваются как правильное решение.
Уроки не были извлечены.
В случае с Украиной последствия допущенных ошибок могут оказаться куда более масштабными и разрушительными. Ответственность за них будет, очевидно, соразмерна вкладу в эскалацию конфликта.
В этой связи обратили внимание на активно продвигаемый на Западе новый нарратив. В пресс-релизе от 15 февраля с.г. по итогам министерской встречи НАТО в Брюсселе Министр обороны Норвегии заявил, что «победа России – это самое опасное для Европы и Норвегии».
Через несколько дней генсекретарь НАТО провозгласил с трибуны Мюнхенской конференции по безопасности: «Некоторые беспокоятся, что наша поддержка Украины угрожает спровоцировать эскалацию. Позвольте внести ясность. Вариантов без рисков нет. Но самый большой риск из всех – это победа Путина».

В то же время в оценке угроз безопасности Норвегии «Фокус 2023», представленной недавно Военной разведкой Норвегии, на стр.27 мы видим: «Нельзя исключать эскалации локальной войны до более крупного конфликта, в который будут напрямую в военном плане вовлечены Россия, США, НАТО и Норвегия».
На стр. 10 того же документа написано: «Если конфликт обострится до региональной войны с участием НАТО, Россия может применить ядерное оружие, обосновав это тем, что война угрожает существованию России. В таком случае может возникнуть вероятность так называемого демонстративного применения тактического ядерного оружия».
Наконец, на стр. 33 отмечается, что, в то время как в ходе СВО Россия на начальном этапе не наносила ударов по критической инфраструктуре Украины, стремясь сохранить ее нетронутой, «в случае нападения на Норвегию и НАТО разрушение таких целей станет приоритетом на ранней стадии, и время предупреждения будет очень коротким».
Мы не комментируем обоснованность утверждений и прогнозов Военной разведки. Оценка угроз национальной безопасности – внутреннее дело и ответственность норвежских официальных лиц.
Из приведенных высказываний выходит, что политическое руководство Норвегии и НАТО «на авось» уповает на «низкую вероятность» обозначенных военными экспертами весьма серьезных угроз.
Либо на Западе действительно полагают, что риск «победы России» на Украине представляет для него большую опасность, чем возможный конфликт Россия-НАТО со всеми вытекающими последствиями, в т.ч. для Норвегии.
Оба варианта выглядят опасно.

Norge har sluttet seg til nesten samtlige av EUs anti-russiske sanksjoner og deltar ivrig i Natos militære forberedelser ved Russlands grenser samt den vestlige «avskrekkingspolitikken» overfor landet vårt. Det forhold har nærmest til grunnen ødelagt arkitekturen av bilaterale forhold.
Til tross for erklæringer om respekt for folkeretten og FNs sentrale rolle er Norge i virkeligheten en forkjemper for det vestlige konseptet om en «regelbasert verdensorden» og en brikke i det Nato-sentrerte sikkerhetssystemet i det euroatlantiske området.
Ved å snakke sjef-allierte i Nato etter munnen avviser Oslo kategorisk russiske forslag om å skape en mer rettferdig verdensorden samt arkitekturen av likestilt og udelelig sikkerhet i Europa med garantier for samtlige av medlemsstatene i Organisasjonen for sikkerhet og samarbeid i Europa (OSSE). Norske myndigheter kaller dette revisjonistiske krav.
Leveranser av dødelige våpen
Etter at Russland innledet sin militæroperasjon i Ukraina, reviderte norske myndigheter «på dagen» den nasjonale politikken for eksportkontroll med militært materiell. Inntil da hadde den vært ubestridt i mer enn 60 år.
De begynte å levere dødelige våpen til en konfliktsone, inkludert missiler og artilleri, panservern- og luftvernmissiler, droner, personellkjøretøyer og tusenvis av granater. Nå har turen kommet til stridsvogner. I tillegg deltar nordmenn i opplæring av ukrainske militære i Norge og andre europeiske land.
Leveranser av dødelige våpen utgjør en grense. Det er ikke ord, diplomatiske signaler eller økonomiske restriksjoner. Til tross for fraværet av en direkte militær trussel mot Norge fra Russland (dette faktumet innrømmes av norske myndigheter) gir Norge våpen og opplæring til mennesker som dreper russere. Man har som offisielt mål å påføre landet vårt «et strategisk tap».
Urettferdighet og svik
Russland har en mangefasettert og til tider komplisert historie i forholdet til flere av sine naboer. Men inntil nylig var Norge et unntak. I løpet av 1000 år med godt naboskap mellom våre folk har Russland aldri rettet våpen mot Norge, med unntak av frigjøringen av Øst-Finnmark fra Nazi-Tysklands okkupasjon.
Måten man har tilbakebetalt oss for dette i dag, er vanskelig å oppfatte som noe annet enn urettferdighet og svik.
Etter at man godkjente femårsprogrammet for hjelp til Ukraina, som utnytter og tilsmusser navnet til den i Russland høyt respekterte Fridtjof Nansen, vil Norge i årene fremover bli en ledende bidragsyter for militær «oppumping» av Kiev-regimet.
Det at Oslo er dedikert til Natos destruktive og konfronterende linje og klar til å engasjere seg i et nytt militært eventyr, påvirkes ikke av alliansens dundrende fiaskoer av voldelige invasjoner i Afghanistan, Irak og Libya. Bombingen av Jugoslavia oppfattes fortsatt som en riktig beslutning. Man lærte ikke leksen.
I Ukrainas tilfelle kan konsekvensene av begåtte feil bli større og mer ødeleggende. Ansvaret for feilene vil være i samme skala som bidraget til eskalering av konflikten.
Det nye narrativet
I den forbindelse har vi merket oss det nye narrativet som aktivt propaganderes i Vesten. I en pressemelding 15. februar, i etterkant av Nato-møtet i Brussel, uttalte Norges forsvarsminister Bjørn Arild Gram (Sp) at «det farligste for Europa og Norge er at Russland vinner frem».
Noen dager senere erklærte Natos generalsekretær Jens Stoltenberg under Sikkerhetskonferansen i München: «Noen bekymrer seg for at vår støtte til Ukraina risikerer å utløse eskalering. La meg være tydelig. Det er ingen risikofrie alternativer. Men den største risikoen av alle er hvis Putin vinner.»
Samtidig ser vi på side 27 i den norske trusselvurderingsrapporten «Fokus 2023», skrevet av Etterretningstjenesten: «Det kan ikke utelukkes at en lokal krig eskalerer til en større konflikt, der Russland, USA, Nato og Norge blir direkte involvert militært.»

En større fare
Vi kommenterer ikke grunnlaget for påstandene og prognosene til Etterretningstjenesten. Å vurdere truslene mot nasjonal sikkerhet er et internt anliggende og ansvar for norske myndigheter.
De ovenstående uttalelsene viser imidlertid at den politiske ledelsen i Norge og Nato «blindt» stoler på «lav sannsynlighetsgrad» for de svært alvorlige truslene forsvarseksperter har pekt på.
Alternativet er at man i Vesten virkelig tror at risikoen for «Russlands seier» i Ukraina utgjør en større fare enn en mulig konflikt mellom Russland og Nato med alle de dermed forbundne konsekvensene, heriblant for Norge.

Об оскорбительных высказываниях посла 🇺🇸США в 🇳🇴Норвегии
Обратили внимание на ежегодную Киркенесскую конференцию, проходившую 1-2 марта с.г. Эта площадка многие годы была полезным и интересным мероприятием, в том числе в контексте российско-норвежского взаимодействия в сопредельных регионах. Но в 2023 г. ее изначальный смысл был выхолощен и подведен под агрессивную западную антироссийскую повестку. Традиционные для этого мероприятия вопросы социально-экономического и промышленного развития Крайнего Севера в этот раз обсуждались по «остаточному принципу». Они уступили место риторике «российской угрозы». Организаторы отказались от направлений официальных приглашений российской стороне. При этом все более активно проявляют себя на этой площадке заокеанский «не партнер».
Один из таких представителей – посол США в Норвегии М.Натансон. Он отметился «на полях» Киркенесской конференции абсолютно кощунственными и оскорбительными высказываниями в адрес России и руководства нашей страны. Сравнение специальной военной операции России на Украине с (понимаю, что в это поверить невозможно, но он это сделал) «гитлеровским вторжением в Норвегию в 1940 г.» Вы можете себе представить? А представитель Вашингтона это сделал. Это пример не просто политического хамства, крайнего невежества и кощунства. Увы, и то, и другое, и третье становятся нормой западной дипломатии, тон которой задают США.
Хотела бы остановиться на этой его страшной цитате. Эти слова, произнесенные на северонорвежской земле, оскорбляют память советских воинов. Вообще-то они оскорбляют еще и Норвегию как страну, граждан этой страны, ее общественность и, конечно, историков.
Но об этом позже. Сейчас хотела бы напомнить о том, что в ходе Петсамо-Киркенесской операции части Карельского фронта и Северного флота 18 октября 1944 г. пересекли норвежскую границу, а 25 октября освободили Киркенес. 1 ноября выбили противника из Вардё, завершив освобождение восточной части северонорвежской губернии Финнмарк. Потери советских войск тогда составили 6048 человек. Во время Второй мировой войны на территории Норвегии находилось 212 лагерей советских военнопленных (212 лагерей, не людей). Основная часть из них была сосредоточена на севере страны. В них содержалось (только вдумайтесь в эту цифру) 100 тысяч человек. В годы войны в Норвегии погибло и захоронено 12678 советских военнопленных.
Оскорбляя нашу страну, американский посол М.Натансон оскорбляет и тех норвежцев, кто чтит подвиг советских солдат, кто сам наряду с воинами Красной Армии вносил свой вклад в Великую Победу в рядах норвежского движения сопротивления, кто, рискуя жизнью, помогал советским военнопленным, кто сам был узником немецких концлагерей. В их числе – дед действующей мининдел Норвегии А.Хюитфельдт. Он находился в лагере вместе с советскими солдатами, научился говорить по-русски и до конца своих дней мог цитировать русские стихи. Она сама об этом рассказывала. Важно, что А.Хюитфельдт дистанцировалась от одиозных заявлений американского посла, заявив, что нельзя проводить подобные параллели.
В целом же конференция наглядным образом продемонстрировала курс Осло на отказ от многоплановых связей и взаимовыгодной кооперации с нашей страной, в том числе на Крайнем Севере. Стараниями политического руководства Норвегии настоящий этап войдет в историю двусторонних отношений как период регресса и прямого ущерба традициям добрососедства и взаимопонимания.

Обратили внимание на ежегодную Киркенесскую конференцию, проходившую 1-2 марта с.г. Эта площадка многие годы была полезным и интересным мероприятием, в том числе в контексте российско-норвежского взаимодействия в сопредельных регионах. Но в 2023 г. ее изначальный смысл был выхолощен и подведен под агрессивную западную антироссийскую повестку. Традиционные для этого мероприятия вопросы социально-экономического и промышленного развития Крайнего Севера в этот раз обсуждались по «остаточному принципу». Они уступили место риторике «российской угрозы». Организаторы отказались от направлений официальных приглашений российской стороне. При этом все более активно проявляют себя на этой площадке заокеанский «не партнер».
Один из таких представителей – посол США в Норвегии М.Натансон. Он отметился «на полях» Киркенесской конференции абсолютно кощунственными и оскорбительными высказываниями в адрес России и руководства нашей страны. Сравнение специальной военной операции России на Украине с (понимаю, что в это поверить невозможно, но он это сделал) «гитлеровским вторжением в Норвегию в 1940 г.» Вы можете себе представить? А представитель Вашингтона это сделал. Это пример не просто политического хамства, крайнего невежества и кощунства. Увы, и то, и другое, и третье становятся нормой западной дипломатии, тон которой задают США.
Хотела бы остановиться на этой его страшной цитате. Эти слова, произнесенные на северонорвежской земле, оскорбляют память советских воинов. Вообще-то они оскорбляют еще и Норвегию как страну, граждан этой страны, ее общественность и, конечно, историков.
Но об этом позже. Сейчас хотела бы напомнить о том, что в ходе Петсамо-Киркенесской операции части Карельского фронта и Северного флота 18 октября 1944 г. пересекли норвежскую границу, а 25 октября освободили Киркенес. 1 ноября выбили противника из Вардё, завершив освобождение восточной части северонорвежской губернии Финнмарк. Потери советских войск тогда составили 6048 человек. Во время Второй мировой войны на территории Норвегии находилось 212 лагерей советских военнопленных (212 лагерей, не людей). Основная часть из них была сосредоточена на севере страны. В них содержалось (только вдумайтесь в эту цифру) 100 тысяч человек. В годы войны в Норвегии погибло и захоронено 12678 советских военнопленных.
Оскорбляя нашу страну, американский посол М.Натансон оскорбляет и тех норвежцев, кто чтит подвиг советских солдат, кто сам наряду с воинами Красной Армии вносил свой вклад в Великую Победу в рядах норвежского движения сопротивления, кто, рискуя жизнью, помогал советским военнопленным, кто сам был узником немецких концлагерей. В их числе – дед действующей мининдел Норвегии А.Хюитфельдт. Он находился в лагере вместе с советскими солдатами, научился говорить по-русски и до конца своих дней мог цитировать русские стихи. Она сама об этом рассказывала. Важно, что А.Хюитфельдт дистанцировалась от одиозных заявлений американского посла, заявив, что нельзя проводить подобные параллели.
В целом же конференция наглядным образом продемонстрировала курс Осло на отказ от многоплановых связей и взаимовыгодной кооперации с нашей страной, в том числе на Крайнем Севере. Стараниями политического руководства Норвегии настоящий этап войдет в историю двусторонних отношений как период регресса и прямого ущерба традициям добрососедства и взаимопонимания.

According to various estimates compiled by the academic community and NGOs, from 100,000 to 205,000 civilians met a violent death, and the invasion indirectly caused about 650,000 civilian casualties (independent reports & surveys give a wide range of estimates up to 1,2 mln casualties). The number of Iraqi refugees reached 1.5 million, and there were 2 million internally displaced persons. Today, over 12 million Iraqis, or about 30 percent of the country’s population, live below the poverty line.
A substantial body of evidence has been collected on the war crimes committed in Iraq by the US Army and its allies, but despite that most of the perpetrators have yet to be held accountable.

🌾 The second 120-day validity period of the Black Sea Initiative on exporting Ukrainian food expired on March 18. With the lack of progress in implementing the Russia-UN Memorandum on normalising Russian agricultural exports, Moscow decided to shorten the next renewal period to 60 days until May 18.
This position was officially communicated to the Turkish and Ukrainian sides of the Black Sea Initiative, as well as the UN officials. No formal objections followed.
Further decisions on extending the initiative will depend on progress in complying with the following terms and conditions in the context of implementing the Russia-UN Memorandum:
• reconnecting Russian Agricultural Bank (RusAg) to SWIFT;
• resuming supplies of agricultural machinery, its parts and maintenance;
• lifting restrictions on insurance and reinsurance, plus lifting the ban on access to ports;
• resuming the Togliatti-Odessa ammonia pipeline operation;
• unblocking foreign assets and accounts of the Russian companies involved in the production and transport of food and fertilisers.
👉 Pending progress in complying with the above requirements, which are not new and should have been complied with as part of the Russia-UN Memorandum, our participation in the Black Sea Initiative will be suspended.

⚡️ Foreign Ministry statement on London’s intention to supply depleted uranium ammunition to Ukraine
💬 We regard the statement made by British Minister of State for Defence Annabel Goldie about the UK government’s plans to send armour-piercing depleted uranium rounds for the Challenger 2 main battle tanks to Ukraine as yet another proof of London’s intention to take the lead in the anti-Russia campaign.
By doing this, the Anglo-Saxons have disclosed their wish to aggravate the confrontation in Ukraine and have disavowed their authorities’ claims about their commitment to the post-conflict rebuilding of that country.
London has apparently forgotten about the well-known serious consequences of the use of toxic and radioactive munitions by the West during the conflicts in Yugoslavia and Iraq. A desire to increase the suffering of civilians and to do irreparable environmental damage shows that the British have no regard whatsoever for the Ukrainian people.
This openly cynical British policy has once again shown who the real aggressor and war monger in Ukraine is. London must know that it will bear full responsibility for violating the fundamental norms of international law.
❗️ London’s decision will have serious consequences for relations between Russia and Britain and will also cause repercussions on the international stage, where the initial reaction by multilateral organisations has indicated their complete rejection of London’s plans. We will respond to such actions accordingly.

Members of BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) are still interested in joint work in the Arctic region. Said Nikolay Korchunov, Ambassador-at-Large of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Chair of the Senior Arctic Officials, Arctic Council, as reported by TASS.
Korchunov, speaking at the scientific and practical conference on climate change and permafrost thawing, noted the steadily increasing interest of more and more states in cooperation in the study and development of the Arctic region. This is relevant for the Central Asian countries and for members of various inter-state groupings (BRICS, SCO and others).
In response to the demands of the countries and the changing times, cooperation is planned in the Antarctic, the Arctic and high altitude areas of Asia - areas characterised by permafrost. Such projects will help to better understand and study the Earth's climatic processes, added Korchunov.
He emphasised the globalisation of the Arctic agenda and said he hoped that the development and study of the Arctic zone would not harm natural and human biota, but would provide the impetus for competent, sustainable development in the region, taking into consideration the latest scientific and technological developments, as well as the green agenda.

Question: Mr Patrushev, the United States will hold its second Summit for Democracy in a couple of days. In its wake, if we are to believe the Department of State, Washington will speed up the so-called democratic renovation of the world. What do you think about this "gathering of Washington's vassals" event?
Nikolai Patrushev: Organised by the White House, the Summit for Democracy is being held as part of the US presidential race that has got under way. It will be yet another meeting in favour of a world system where Washington wants to play the central role, while the dissidents, as should be expected, will be branded as “undemocratic states.”
The United States will once again declare itself the defender of international law and is sure to claim that the world must live according to its rules. Its geopolitical adversaries will be heaped with patently false accusations of military crimes and corruption, but, as usually, they will turn a blind eye to the real acts of genocide and financial machinations perpetrated with the White House’s approval. They will promise to feed the hungry and free unjustly imprisoned individuals. But they will keep silent about the fact that the US prison population amounts to about one-fifth of the entire world’s prison population, including people sentenced to several life terms. They will show especial zeal in defending sexual minority rights and imposing their green agenda on the world, thereby aggravating the energy crisis in their satellite countries.
While hypocritically speculating about the freedom of choice, the United States, the self-appointed global dictator, will in fact scoff at countries whose sovereignty and democracy it has trampled underfoot.
Question: They will probably say again that the US is a paragon of democracy for the entire human race, and will not wish to hear any criticism about themselves?
Nikolai Patrushev: This goes without saying. After all, the main task of the political regime in the present-day US is to mislead their own population amid the system-wide crisis they are facing.
Their democracy is nothing more than a pretty façade of a state structure designed to cover up how they ignore the rights of the common American. Those who have taken a closer look at the US legal and socio-political system have no illusions about whether there is freedom of speech or freedom of expression. How can there be freedom of opinion, if even the former president of the United States is prevented from speaking on the social media or in the press about issues that interest the public, and while the media are propaganda outlets for major companies and elite groups?

Though proclaiming democratic slogans in season and out of season, Washington has long become a champion in violating the sovereignty of states, in the number of war and conflicts unleashed, and in the brutal and illegal hunting of citizens of other countries.
If the US really decides to advance towards democracy and stops humiliating its allies/vassals, we will only welcome that.
Question: Will we hear at the summit pompous statements about how Kiev, with the support of the good people from NATO, is standing up to the universal evil embodied by Russia?

Question: Mr Patrushev, the United States will hold its second Summit for Democracy in a couple of days. In its wake, if we are to believe the Department of State, Washington will speed up the so-called democratic renovation of the world. What do you think about this "gathering of Washington's vassals" event?
Nikolai Patrushev: Organised by the White House, the Summit for Democracy is being held as part of the US presidential race that has got under way. It will be yet another meeting in favour of a world system where Washington wants to play the central role, while the dissidents, as should be expected, will be branded as “undemocratic states.”
The United States will once again declare itself the defender of international law and is sure to claim that the world must live according to its rules. Its geopolitical adversaries will be heaped with patently false accusations of military crimes and corruption, but, as usually, they will turn a blind eye to the real acts of genocide and financial machinations perpetrated with the White House’s approval. They will promise to feed the hungry and free unjustly imprisoned individuals. But they will keep silent about the fact that the US prison population amounts to about one-fifth of the entire world’s prison population, including people sentenced to several life terms. They will show especial zeal in defending sexual minority rights and imposing their green agenda on the world, thereby aggravating the energy crisis in their satellite countries.
While hypocritically speculating about the freedom of choice, the United States, the self-appointed global dictator, will in fact scoff at countries whose sovereignty and democracy it has trampled underfoot.
Question: They will probably say again that the US is a paragon of democracy for the entire human race, and will not wish to hear any criticism about themselves?
Nikolai Patrushev: This goes without saying. After all, the main task of the political regime in the present-day US is to mislead their own population amid the system-wide crisis they are facing.
Their democracy is nothing more than a pretty façade of a state structure designed to cover up how they ignore the rights of the common American. Those who have taken a closer look at the US legal and socio-political system have no illusions about whether there is freedom of speech or freedom of expression. How can there be freedom of opinion, if even the former president of the United States is prevented from speaking on the social media or in the press about issues that interest the public, and while the media are propaganda outlets for major companies and elite groups?

They made one large military camp out of Ukraine. They are shipping weapons and ammunition to Ukrainian troops, provide them with intelligence, including with the help of satellite imagery specialists and a fair number of UAVs. NATO instructors and advisers are training the Ukrainian military, and mercenaries are fighting as part of neo-Nazi battalions. In an attempt to draw out the military confrontation as much as possible, they are not hiding their key goal, which is to defeat Russia on the battlefield and then dismember it.
Question: This policy of Washington never changes, because the American elite were never able to come to grips with a strong and independent Russia, correct?
Nikolai Patrushev: Yes. The US authorities’ unchecked push to maintain their leading role around the world has been the source of escalation of tensions on a global scale since at least 1945. They believe two great powers, Russia and China, are standing in their way and prevent them from achieving this goal. The Russian Federation is a problem because in addition to pursuing an independent policy for strengthening the multipolar world, it defeats America spiritually, morally, and militarily. China is the United States’ main economic rival. Their attempts to suppress Russia will be followed by Washington’s taking on the PRC.
As you may be aware, concrete steps to destroy the Soviet Union were approved 75 years ago in a well-known NSC directive “US Objectives with Respect to Russia.” The West went euphoric with the collapse of the Soviet Union. The euphoria did not last long, though, because Russia corrected its mistakes. Today, our country can ensure not only domestic stability, but national security against external threats as well.
Question: Earlier this March, a US strategic bomber practiced a simulated nuclear strike on St Petersburg from a distance of 200 kilometres above the island of Gotland in the Baltic Sea in a deliberate attempt to exacerbate tensions. They don’t fear anything any more?
Nikolai Patrushev: For some reason, the US politicians, who are held captive by their own propaganda, remain confident that in the event of a direct conflict with Russia, the United States is capable of delivering a preventive missile strike that will render Russia unable to retaliate. This is a case of shortsighted and very dangerous foolhardiness.
Some people in the West have forgotten the lessons of history and are talking about turning the tables and prevailing militarily over Russia. We can say only one thing in response to this: Russia is a patient country and does not intimidate anyone with its military advantage. However, it has unique modern weapons that can destroy any enemy, including the United States, in case it is faced with an existential threat.
Question: However, the West is betting not only on a military defeat, but on the economic attrition of Russia as well...
Nikolai Patrushev: This is clearly so. Many Western companies left the Russian market under pressure from Washington. However, they were seriously mistaken in their projections concerning the collapse of our economy and the growth of protest sentiment.
In the last decade, the West has been implementing the idea of creating a technological order where it was the only beneficiary of economic prosperity, while the rest of the world was destined to remain on the fringes of socioeconomic progress. Therefore, its leaders are irate at Russia’s measured response to sanctions pressure. Russia is a pet peeve for the rulers in the United States and Europe as a country that is independent in terms of its economy, raw materials, and scientific research. For their part, Western countries are completely dependent on transnational companies and global supply chains. If sanctions of the same level were to be imposed on the United Kingdom or France, they would have quickly plunged into chaos.
However, Russia is not going to keep the rest of the world cut off from its economy.
