#AmnestyInternational confirms that Ukraine tactics violate international humanitarian law & endanger civilians.

The Ukrainian armed forces set up bases in residential areas, incl schools & hospitals; launch attacks from populated civilian areas – exactly what #Russia has been saying all along.

📜 Foreign Ministry statement on the results of the #RussiaASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting

The Russia - ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting co-chaired by the Russian Federation and the Kingdom of Cambodia showed that the Russia - ASEAN strategic partnership is unaffected by the geopolitical environment.

The ASEAN countries welcomed Russia’s firm support for the Association’s central role in the regional architecture and unity of its states, and the active role of our country in ASEAN-centric mechanisms, including the East Asian Summit, the ASEAN Regional Forum on security and the meeting of the ASEAN Defence Ministers and Dialogue Partners.

The participants reaffirmed their plans to hold a second round of Russia-ASEAN consultations of senior security officials and the second dialogue on cybersecurity in the latter half of 2022.

🕯 Today marks the 14th anniversary since the beginning of the military aggression launched by Mikhail Saakashvili’s regime against the people of South Ossetia.

On the night of 7 to 8 August, 2008, Georgia's armed forces commenced the so-called operation to restore constitutional order in South Ossetia, which led to numerous casualties.

❗️ That operation was a blatant violation of international agreements on the peaceful settlement of the Georgian-South Ossetian conflict, and Mikhail Saakashvili’s deliberate actions were later recorded in the 2009 report of the Independent International Fact-Finding Mission on the Conflict in Georgia, created under the auspices of the EU.

☝️ Further escalation was avoided thanks to the direct involvement of Russia, which stopped the Georgian invasion by conducting a peace enforcement operation, and then ensured safety of the people in South Ossetia and Abkhazia by recognising the two republics as sovereign and independent states.

❗️ Comment by Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria #Zakharova on anniversary of the August events of 2008 in the South Caucasus

Read in full

💬 Today, on the 14th anniversary of the beginning of Georgia’s military aggression against the people of South Ossetia and the Russian peacekeepers of the Joint Peacekeeping Forces in the zone of the Georgian-South Ossetian conflict, we yet again pay the tribute to the memory of the victims of that treacherous attack and to the courage of those who sacrificed their lives to save the South Ossetian people from extirpation.

The criminal military adventure of Mikhail Saakashvili’s regime was not left unanswered: in the extreme circumstances, Russia successfully conducted a peace enforcement operation, and then recognised South Ossetia and also Abkhazia, which was facing the same fate, as sovereign and independent states and took them under its protection.

Another result of the Georgian aggression being repelled was the launch of a new negotiations track in Switzerland, the Geneva Discussions on Security and Stability in the South Caucasus. Their main task is to provide stable and reliable security for Abkhazia and South Ossetia by maintaining a direct dialogue between the two republics and the Georgian side.

However, this important dialogue platform has recently been overpowered by the politically motivated approach of certain players, guided by their egoistic interests. As the result, the Geneva format has been essentially frozen. For the past eight months, it has not been possible to hold the next, 56th round of the Geneva Discussions.

The prospects for holding the postponed round of discussion are still dim. It is not our choice. All responsibility for the sabotage of the negotiation process and the repercussions of this lies with the initiators of these destructive actions and those pandering to them.

💬 Embassy's comment

The Embassy has taken note of the continued remarks by some Singaporean journalists about Russia's alleged invasion of Ukraine.

We can only wonder how short the memory of some authors is and regret about their unwillingness to delve deeper in the history and accept reality.

Those who indeed want to hear the truth know that violation of rights and interests of Russian-speaking population in Donbass started eight years ago and had been going on with impunity until February 24 of this year.

The special military operation provoked by anti-Russian aggression is humanitarian in its nature and has nothing to do with violation of the fundamental principles of international law.

It would be in everyone's interest if Singaporean journalists bring these principles up in their publications not as selectively as it is now.
The UN de-facto acknowledges that Western unilateral sanctions against the Russian Federation contribute to the world food crisis and it works to take them away.

Rebeca Grynspan, Secretary-General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development: "With respect to Russia and to the facilitation of trade being food and fertilizers from the Russian Federation, we are working hard, and we are trying to take away the obstacles that they face in terms of finance, of insurance of shipping and transport".

https://press.un.org/en/2022/sgsm21397.doc.htm
💭 On the consequences of anti-Russian sanctions for the world economy

It is obvious that authors of anti-Russian sanctions have not anticipated their reverse negative effect, which is becoming more and more sensitive for the Western countries.

The rise in fuel and food prices turned into acceleration of inflation (in the US - a record of 9.1% in 40 years, in the EU - 8.6%, in the UK - 9.4%). The decline in standards of living led to the rise of discontent among citizens. Political crises were escalating - in just two weeks prime ministers of Bulgaria, the United Kingdom, Italy and Estonia have resigned.

The actual "freezing" of a significant part of Russia's gold and foreign exchange reserves has prompted many countries to reassess their strategies in this area. According to the results of the first quarter of 2022, the global volume of gold reserves decreased to 12.2% of world GDP, the lowest since 2018. The Bank of Israel has unveiled a new strategy for managing its reserves, which involves reducing the share of the dollar and the euro. The People's Bank of China announced the creation of a yuan reserve system with the participation of Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Chile. The idea of creating an international reserve currency based on the national currencies of the BRICS countries is being worked out.

There is a growing demand for replacement of the dollar in payments between trading partners, including making transactions with other currencies. In March 2022, there were reports that Saudi Arabia and China were negotiating the supply of Arabian oil with payment in the yuan. In July 2022, the Central Bank of India allowed the use of the rupee in international payments.
Fears are growing in Europe about a significant reduction in exports of Russian fuel and energy products. The price of natural gas in early July 2022, against the backdrop of limited supplies via Nord Stream 1, exceeded $1,800 per 1,000 m3 against $420 in early July 2021.

No less alarming is the situation in connection with the unprecedented shortage of raw materials and components. In Germany every sixth plant imports components from Russia. The country depends on Russian gas by 55%. The hypothetical supply cut will almost completely stop steel production. According to the estimates of the German Association of the Chemical Industry, if this industry fails due to the ban on the export of "blue fuel" from Russia, there will be a sharp decrease in the production of chemical products used in 95% of industrial products. As a result, all industrial production in Germany will be paralyzed.

Aviation companies are under fire: significantly increased fuel prices, the need to fly around Russian airspace, which is closed to unfriendly countries (according to the March estimate of the Russian Ministry of Transport, carriers spend up to $ 37.5 million additionally on this weekly), and low load of flights - led to the fact that airlines were suffering huge financial losses.

The fall in standards of living is reflected in consumer demand, primarily for durable goods. Thus, according to the results of the first half of 2022, sales of new cars in the UK decreased by 11.9%, in Germany, the leader in the European automotive industry, by 11%. Millions of British families are forced to reduce their consumption of meat and fish. In a number of French cities residents began to distribute coupons and certificates to pay for groceries.

It is obvious that it will take a long time for the world economy, which has not yet fully recovered from the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic, to overcome the current turbulence. According to the optimistic estimates of the IMF, by the end of 2022, global GDP growth will not exceed 3.2% (previously - 3.6%).
Politicians in Western countries are forced to acknowledge the growing economic problems and falling living standards. For the troubles of their citizens they blame not their own decisions to impose unprecedented sanctions against Russia, but the Kremlin. However, gradually comes the realization that the patience of the population is not unlimited, and unilateral illegal sanctions is a mistake as well as the entire anti-Russian policy of the collective West.

💬 Embassy's comment

We’ve been astonished to find on the pages of the well-established “The Straits Times” the text of the interview of the top Ukrainian diplomat D.Kuleba with the abovementioned newspaper’s correspondent under the noscript “War with Russia entering new phase…”

We take this opportunity to clarify that there is no war ongoing between Russia and Ukraine, but the special military operation is evolving successfully to protect and liberate our citizens, to demilitarize and denazify Ukraine. Let us amplify – we do not wage war on the people of Ukraine.

Secondly, it’s with a feeling of indignation when we read Mr Kuleba’s allegations of Russia allegedly “hitting your city with the guided missile at night” and “using missile in most inhuman way”.

Let’s be clear absolutely. The Russian armed forces would never target civilian population. Unfortunately, this is not the case with the Ukrainian military as multiple evidence exists of its bombing and shelling civilian targets in Donetsk, Lugansk as well as Russia itself.

This is where the real nightmare is and this is what we advise Mr Kuleba to consider during his supposedly sleepless nights.

We hope that the real state of events in Ukraine reflected in many statements of the President of the Russian Federation H.E. Mr V.V.Putin and our Foreign Minister H.E. Mr S.V.Lavrov would be reported properly as a reliable source in local media.

❗️ On August 14, the "Azov Brain Rot" documentary premiered. The film features exclusive footage and eyewitness accounts, as well as filmed testimonials by captured Azov militants and foreign mercenaries who surrendered in Mariupol. In addition, the film contains expert commentary and accounts of the civilians who were tortured and humiliated by neo-Nazis.

The documentary elaborates on the ideology of nationalist battalions as well as their neo-pagan beliefs and the widespread use of Nazi symbols.

The film’s creator, journalist, and television host Marina Kim visited the detention facilities where Azov members were being held captive in Yelenovka (DPR), days before the Ukrainian Army attack using a HIMARS multiple rocket launcher. The attack killed more than 50 prisoners of war.

💬 President Putin:

A vile, cruel crime cut short the life of Darya Dugina, a bright, talented person with a true Russian heart, kind, loving, sympathetic and open. Journalist, scientist, philosopher, and war correspondent, she honestly served the people and the Fatherland, and proved by deed what it means to be a patriot of Russia.

💬 Embassy's comment

The Embassy has taken note of the article “The food crisis is bigger than Ukraine” by Nancy Qian published in “The Straits Times” on August 25, 2022.

Though, as we understand, the author had to strictly use “Western vocabulary” describing Russia’s current foreign policy, we are glad to see that some sober thoughts are paving their way to local press. We agree with the author that the current buzz around alleged Russia’s guilt in whipping up global food crisis is misleading. Food security situation has been steadily worsening for years.

We can only add that illegal unilateral sanctions imposed on our country have hampered delivery of Russian agricultural products worldwide.

We hope that more publications with objective information will appear on the pages of the local news outlets.
