#Moscow878
🇷🇺 Today we celebrate #MoscowCityDay – a holiday that unites the history, culture, and traditions of our country.
This year, the capital of Russia turns 878 years old.
📜 The first mention of Moscow dates back to 1147.
The Ipatiev Chronicle describes Prince Yuri Dolgorukiy’s invitation to his friends and allies, led by Svyatoslav Olgovich, Prince of Novgorod-Seversky, to meet him in Moscow:
Over the centuries, this small fortress and settlement grew into a global metropolis and the capital of a great state.
Today, Moscow covers an area of over 2,500 square kilometers and is the largest city in Russia, with a population of more than 13 million people. It plays a leading role in the political, cultural, and scientific life of the country, remaining a magnet for talent and ideas from around the world.
✨ Moscow City Day is not only a tribute to history but also a look into the future. The capital blends ancient traditions with modern achievements, preserving its rich heritage while developing dynamically. Our cherished capital is a true "Smart City", standing among the leaders in the digitalisation of urban services and solutions.
The history of Moscow is a story of courage, creation, and the unity of the entire people. A Hero City, a symbol of resilience and spiritual strength, Moscow is rightfully considered the heart of Russia.
On September 13 and 14, in honor of Moscow’s 878th Anniversary, the city will host more than 130 events. During these days, not only the streets but also public transport will be specially decorated. An unforgettable atmosphere will be created by vibrant shows, theatrical performances, concerts, engaging workshops, fascinating tours, and lectures.
Happy Birthday, dear capital! 🎉

🎓 Russell Phun, a graduate of Nanyang Technological University (NTU), has been awarded a scholarship to pursue his Master’s degree in Russia. He will be studying at one of the country’s top universities — Higher School of Economics (HSE).
Before leaving for Moscow, Russell and his Russian language teacher, Elena Ermilova, visited the Russian Embassy, where Russell shared his thoughts and plans for studying in the Russian capital. The conversation was conducted in Russian, and Russell demonstrated remarkable proficiency in the language.
Could you tell us a little about yourself?
My name is Russell. I was born and raised in Singapore. This July, I graduated from Nanyang Technological University (NTU) with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science.
In December last year, I applied for a scholarship through the Rossotrudnichestvo program to pursue a Master’s degree. This year, I was fortunate to receive the scholarship to study for my Master’s at the Higher School of Economics in Moscow. I’m very grateful for this opportunity.
One of my hobbies is basketball, although these days I spend more time at the gym.
Why did you decide to study in Russia?
I’ve always been interested in Russian culture and the Russian language, so when I found out there was an opportunity to study in Russia, I thought, “Why not?”
Also, I really like winter. People say Russian winters are extremely cold, so this is a great chance for me to experience it in real life!
Besides, I grew up in a hot country where it’s constantly hot, so I actually prefer cooler weather. I think Russia is the perfect place for me! Though, after experiencing a real Russian winter, I might change my mind.
Was the application process difficult?
No, it was quite straightforward. Everything was done online through the website education-in-russia.com, and the instructions on how to apply were very clear.
I’d also like to thank Elizaveta Kondratyeva from Rossotrudnichestvo — she helped and supported me a lot throughout the whole process. Overall, it was a smooth and easy experience.
How did you feel when you found out you’d been accepted to the Higher School of Economics?
I was thrilled and really happy! The Higher School of Economics is one of the best universities in Russia. I had heard many good things about it — from the vibrant student life and beautiful campus to its excellent professors. I feel very lucky.
Tell us about the program you chose. How long will you study?
My program is called International Relations: European and Asian Studies. The course is taught in Russian and partially in English. The program lasts for 2 years. But before that, I will spend 1 year studying Russian at the university’s preparatory faculty.
I’m confident that after this year of intensive study, my Russian will be strong enough to follow the Master’s program in Russian.
What do you definitely want to do while studying in Russia?
I definitely want to try ice skating! I’ve heard it’s a lot of fun.
Also, Russia is a very big country, so I’d love to learn more about Russian culture and travel to different cities! I’d like to visit Irkutsk, Novosibirsk, and Tomsk.
What would you say to those who are thinking about learning Russian and studying in Russia?
Russian is not the easiest language, but I think it’s very rich and useful.
Knowing Russian opens many career opportunities, both in Russia and in CIS countries. So, I would definitely encourage anyone to study it.
This article was prepared by the First Secretary of the Russian Embassy, Nadezhda Bereznyatskaya, with the support of Elena Ermilova, Russian Language Coordinator at NTU.

🎙 Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s remarks at the Ambassadorial Round Table Discussion 'Ukraine Crisis: Compliance with the UN Charter Goals and Principles' (Moscow, September 17, 2025)
💬 This is the ninth round table discussion held in this format.
We appreciate the interest of the #GlobalMajority, which you represent, in the efforts that are being taken in connection with the Ukraine crisis. We try to inform our friends about our stance, actions and plans as openly and explicitly as possible.
Today, I would like to speak about the situation, its history and current developments from the perspective of the #UNCharter, which all countries represented here have ratified and which formalised the universal principles of regulating interstate communication.
These principles include the sovereign equality of states, the non-use of force or threat of force, and respect for human rights regardless of race, sex, language or religion. All UN member states have subscribed to them.
❗️ However, our Western “colleagues” <...> disregard the principles of the UN Charter.
In particular, the West never had any regard for the sovereign equality of states. Cast your mind back to the international crises that took place in the period after the creation of the UN. The West did not show respect for the principle of sovereign equality of state in any of these crises, regarding itself superior to others.
Even when the Werst cites some principles to justify its actions, it does so selectively, choosing principles that suit it in the given instance, and depending on its actions. In the case of Kosovo, they said that they were acting in accordance with the principle of self-determination of nations, on the basis of which they proclaimed its independence without holding a referendum.
In other cases, for example, #Crimea, where over 95 percent of the people openly and transparently voted for reuniting with Russia, the West stated that the principle of self-determination was not applicable and demanded respect for the principle of territorial integrity.
☝️ We are fully aware of these double standards.
The residents of Crimea (in March 2014) and the residents of the Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics, the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions (in September 2022) exercised their right to self-determination, enshrined in Article 1 of the UN Charter, through referenda.
We, the Russian Federation, recognised them and, in the face of the continuing aggression from the Nazi Kiev regime, supported by the West, offered them protection in full compliance with Article 51 of the UN Charter that grants countries the right to individual or collective self-defence.
The Kiev regime’s violations of international humanitarian law are so obvious that they simply cannot be denied. There are more than enough facts. But the [UN] Secretariat is taking an opposite stance and attempting to whitewash the acts committed by the Kiev regime <...>.
Europe is clearly — and rather unceremoniously — trying to get a place of its own at the negotiating table. Truth be told, its position of revanchism and inflicting a strategic defeat on Russia makes it unfit to have a seat at the negotiating table.
Europe is talking about sending its contingents to Ukraine. We have already made it clear that they would be considered a legitimate military target. Europe is trying to promote security guarantees for Ukraine, which are being drafted without our participation and openly seek to create military threats to the Russian Federation.
The security guarantees must fully comply with the West’s obligations, enshrined in the UN Charter and in the OSCE consensus documents adopted in Istanbul in 1999 and Astana in 2010. These security guarantees, as was agreed then, must rely on the principle of indivisible security and the principle under which no country has the right to strengthen its own security at the expense of others.
❗️ This is precisely what the West is currently trying to accomplish in Ukraine in its attempts to save it from total collapse.

#Russia #MostBeautifulCountry
📸 The Most Beautiful Country, the 11th international photo contest held by the Russian Geographical Society, has wrapped up its 2025 edition.
It's hard to describe how vast and diverse #Russia is — places, locales and biomes, fauna, the peoples and lifestyles. Better show & #See4Yourself 👇
On September 11, names of eleven winners in main categories were announced: five winners of special prizes, including the People’s Choice Award, and four winners of the photo contest, The Most Beautiful Country through the Eyes of Children.
The photo contest is an annual competition of the best of the best since 2015. Throughout the 11 years, the jury received over 780,000 submissions from 118,000 contestants.
Both professional photographers and amateurs, foreign nationals and children can participate on an annual basis. The main rule is that all photos must be taken in Russia. The best images become true discoveries for experts, jury members and viewers.
The submitted works are evaluated by world-renowned wildlife photographers, cultural figures, as well as professionals in their field, who prove by their example that we have got the most beautiful country.
Overall, some 50,000 works were submitted by 8,000 participants to the 11th The Most Beautiful Country contest.
And the winners are👇
• Alexander Lavrentyev of Pushkino, Moscow Region, who took a picture of a foggy coast of the nearly inaccessible island of Simushir, (Landscape category);
• Vyacheslav Zametnya of St Petersburg with a one-of-a-kind photo of a snow leopard on the Chikhachev Range, the northernmost habitat of the animal (Wild Animals category);
