🎙 Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s greetings on Diplomats’ Day (February 10, 2025)

💬 Colleagues,

Today, we are celebrating a professional holiday that brings together many generations of diplomats, who have devoted their lives to serving Russia.

We are paying tribute to the emerging tradition to honour our country’s diplomatic workers, which dates back to 2003, when we first marked this significant date in line with President Vladimir Putin’s decision.

🤝 First of all, I would like to express gratitude to all those who honestly perform their professional duty at the Central Office in Smolenskaya Square, territorial missions in the Russian regions, and our numerous foreign missions. Thank you for your conscientious service, self-denial, and non-indifferent attitude to what has been entrusted to you.

Russian diplomats have always been distinguished by their commitment to the ideals of patriotism and firmly safeguarded the interests of Fatherland at all times, under any social and political system, and under all circumstances.

The names of many of them have been forever entered in the glorious annals of Russian history. I am referring to Alexander Bezborodko, Alexander Gorchakov, Alexandra Kollontai, Anatoly Dobrynin, Yevgeny Primakov, Vitaly Churkin, and numerous others. We cherish their memory and honour their services. <...>

This year is special on the diplomatic calendar, being marked by the 80th Anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War and World War II. It has also been proclaimed the Year of the Defender of the Fatherland.

It is with a particular gratitude that we pay homage to the immortal feat of valour committed by staff members of the People’s Commissariat of Foreign Affairs, who rose with arms in hand to the defence of Motherland during the grim years of war.

🏅 We recall the names of diplomats, our senior colleagues, who were bringing Victory closer at the foreign policy front. They made an invaluable contribution to the establishment of the anti-Hitler coalition and later to reaching fundamental agreements on the postwar international order, the most important of which were the decisions to create the United Nations and approve its Charter whose principles and goals in their totality and interconnection remain relevant to this day.

It is largely due to our country’s leaders and diplomatic service that the Yalta-Potsdam system of international relations has guaranteed global peace and security for the past eight decades.

Now that Russia is facing fateful challenges again, our priority and sacred duty is to safeguard peace based on the legal results of World War II. <...>

We will continue to do whatever is possible and necessary to protect Russia’s national interests in the context of foreign policy support for the special military operation and to create the safe and most favourable conditions for national development and wellbeing of our people.

🌐 We will continue to promote multifaceted cooperation with all sober-minded partners and primarily with the Global Majority – former republics of the USSR and countries of Greater Eurasia, Africa, and Latin America.

In collaboration with our numerous friends and opinion allies, we will help to strengthen the foundations of multipolarity, create Eurasian security architecture, and establish international interaction mechanisms impervious to the destructive influence of the Western minority. <...>

🎉 I wish you good health, wellbeing, and new attainments for the good of your Fatherland. Success and good luck to you! Congratulations once again!

✉️ President Vladimir Putin congratulated current staff and veterans of the Russian Foreign Ministry on their professional holiday, Diplomatic Worker's Day.

The message reads, in part:

The Russian Foreign Ministry can be justly proud of its rich and glorious history. Its employees have always served the Motherland with honour, displaying civic courage, exceptional professionalism and dedication to duty.

Continuing these traditions with dignity, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is resolutely and consistently defending Russia's legitimate national interests in the current challenging international environment.

It ensures effective cooperation with the global majority states in order to build a just multipolar world order based on mutual respect, the rule of international law, and the principles of equal and indivisible security. This is evidenced, in particular, by the productive work of Russia's BRICS chairmanship and the success of the association's
Summit in Kazan.

There is no doubt that in the year of the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory, Russian diplomats will continue their active efforts in opposing any attempts to falsify history, manifestations of neo-Nazism, Russophobia and other forms of discrimination based on ethnic or religious grounds. Moreover, protecting the rights of our compatriots abroad remains a priority.

I am confident that the MFA's close-knit team will continue to work with the utmost dedication and contribute to the strengthening of Russia's international standing.

🎙 Excerpt from Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov's remarks at a solemn event marking #DiplomatsDay (Moscow, 10 February 2025)

💬 The Greater Eurasian Partnership is called to serve as a solid material foundation underlying architecture of equal and indivisible security across Eurasia.

Our vision of the Eurasian security architecture implies its openness to all countries and associations of geographical Eurasia, meaning that European countries are welcome to participate in the continental cooperation, provided they abandon their hostile policies and bloc thinking that was largely behind the armed conflict in Ukraine.

The causes of Ukraine crisis run deep. We never tire of discussing them, and we are pushing for having them removed.

First and foremost, the issue is about creating threats to Russia's security through NATO eastward expansion and the policy pursued by the Kiev regime, which came to power on the heels of an anti-constitutional coup, seeking to exterminate everything about Russia, including its language, culture, media, and canonical Orthodoxy. Complete and irreversible elimination of the root causes of the conflict is the only way forward if we want to put an end to it.

☝️ Russia is ready for talks that will secure our legitimate national interests, not at the expense of the interests of others, but in the context of an agreement on a comprehensive security system that takes everyone's interests into account.

📞 President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with President of the transitional phase of the Syrian Arab Republic Ahmed al-Sharaa

Vladimir Putin wished Ahmed al-Sharaa every success in addressing various objectives facing the country’s new leadership for the benefit of the Syrian nation with which Russia has been traditionally linked by relations of friendship and mutually beneficial cooperation.

The Presidents conducted a detailed exchange of opinions regarding the situation in Syria. The Russian Side emphasised its principled position in support of the Syrian state’s unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity. In this connection, the leaders noted the importance of implementing a range of measures for the sake of sustained national normalisation, invigorating intra-Syrian dialogue involving leading political forces and ethnic and religious groups.

Vladimir Putin
reaffirmed Russia’s invariable readiness to help improve the socio-economic situation in Syria, including the provision of humanitarian aid to its residents.

The Presidents touched upon multiple key issues of practical collaboration in trade and economic, educational and other spheres, including in the context of recent talks in Damascus that involved a Russian interdepartmental delegation. They agreed to continue these useful contacts for elaborating a wide-ranging agenda of expanded bilateral cooperation.

The Presidents had a constructive, business-like and detailed telephone conversation.

🇷🇺🇺🇸📞 President Vladimir Putin and President Donald Trump spoke over the phone.

The Leaders discussed issues related to the prisoner exchange between Russia and the United States. The US President assured the Russian President of the American side's commitment to fulfill all the agreements reached.

The two Heads of State also discussed a possible settlement in Ukraine. Donald Trump spoke in favour of stopping the hostilities as soon as possible and solving the crisis peacefully. In turn, Vladimir Putin stressed the need to eliminate the root causes of the conflict and agreed with Donald Trump in that a sustainable solution could only be achieved through peaceful negotiations.

In addition, Russia's President endorsed one of the US President's key arguments that it's time for both nations to work together.

The conversation also brought up the Middle East settlement, Iran's nuclear programme, and bilateral economic relations between Russia and the United States.

The Russian President invited the US President to visit Moscow and expressed willingness to receive visiting US officials to discuss issues of mutual interest, including a possible Ukraine settlement.

Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump agreed to maintain personal contacts in the future, including face-to-face meetings.

💬 Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov: After Russia launched the special military operation, we were accused of all sorts of evil.

For years, no one had listened to our warnings about the root causes of the Ukraine conflict. Several agreements were made to save Ukraine after the 2014 Nazi coup, instigated and financed by the West, but they were never implemented.

We had no choice but to solve this problem ourselves by launching the special military operation.

I was really struck by the sudden excitement with which the whole world seems to be discussing the phone call [between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump] and the reports that followed as an extraordinary event. Just look at what President Biden and his team have done.

Their European satellites have also abandoned dialogue and diplomacy as a method of dealing with the outside world and have instead turned to the language of threats and sanctions, arming the Nazi regime in Kiev to wage war against Russia and going so far as to send their specialists to target the long-range missiles they have supplied to strike Russian territory. <...>

From the way the world froze after Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin spoke over the phone, it is clear that the West has been taking for granted everything that is happening in Ukraine, what Vladimir Zelensky's Nazi regime is doing.

That is probably why many in the West, starting with the leaders of the European Union, were taken aback by a normal, basic conversation between two well-mannered, polite people who do not put their differences aside. They have their disagreements, but they realise that politics is about sitting down and talking, and finding common ground.

☝️ Sadly, the reaction in the West shows that there are virtually no such people left there. Two well-mannered men have just shown the whole world how politics should be done.

I only hope that this will make those who have forgotten how to do it come to their senses, and re-read their history and political science books.

🏅 On February 14, 1943, the Red Army liberated the city of Rostov-on-Don from the Nazi invaders.

#RostovOnDon was occupied twice during the Great Patriotic War. The Nazis took the city in November 1941, and later it was under the enemy occupation again from July 22, 1942 to February 14, 1943. The Germans were determined to hold the city at any costs as it was an important transport hub in the region and a huge administrative centre opening the way for the Nazis to the Caucasus.

🌟 In February 1943, the Red Army carried out the Rostov offensive operation to liberate the city, defeat the enemy’s army group on the Don River and thus block the Wehrmacht units’ redeployment to #Donbass.

The Soviet 28th Army under the command of Lieutenant General Vasily Gerasimenko reached the outskirts of Rostov-on-Don following a 600-kilometre march across snow-covered southern steppes.

Four Nazi divisions were concentrated in Rostov-on-Don. The enemy had built there strong defence lines with robust fortifications and numerous machine-gun and artillery firing points.

The Red Army offensive was also complicated by the terrain: the right bank of the Don River, where the city is located, was much higher than the left bank, from which the Soviet forces were launching their attack. The penetration of the enemy defences in the city seemed impossible.

⚔️ In the early hours of February 8, 1943, the Southern Front forces led by Colonel-General Rodion Malinovsky launched the operation to liberate Rostov-on-Don. The Nazi-occupied city saw brutal, fierce fighting that lasted for six days. On February 14, 1943, the Red Army broke through the enemy’s defences and entered the city from Bataysk. The German garrison was encircled and forced to surrender.

Rostov-on-Don’s pre-war population of more than 1.5 million people was effectively decimated by #WWII and the German occupation, dwindling to 150'000. The Nazis also destroyed there the local industries, looted and captured its cultural heritage.

Thanks to the heroism and unrivalled morale of the Red Army soldiers, Rostov-on-Don was finally liberated after 205 days of occupation. During the Rostov offensive, the Soviet forces not only liberated the Rostov Region, but also took a bridgehead near the Mius River to use it in a further offensive in the direction of Donbass.

📺 Watch Minister-Counsellor Alexander Gusarov's interview with the Southern African Times

Key talking points:

Russia is returning to Africa, rekindling lost connections and tapping new opportunities. <...> We are reopening or establishing new embassies across the region. We have established a new department within the Russian MFA to deal with the partnership with Africa. This shows the level of our political and economic investment into the region.

With its growing population, treasure trove of natural resources and industrial development, Africa really is the continent of the future. We are doing our utmost to engage in demand-driven cooperation with African countries, both bilaterally and multilaterally.

Russia has not just aligned itself with decolonization efforts, but we have actually spearheaded and championed these efforts in many different ways. Our country was actively driving the decolonization process, contributing to the self-determination of African nations.

When we meet with our African colleagues, we try to talk less and listen more. We have the Russia-Africa Summit. Last year, we held the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum meeting at ministerial level. These are all formats for discussing manifold avenues for cooperation, be it healthcare, education, telecommunications or space research.

We have ramped up scholarship grants for African students. We are fine-tuning the system of vocational tuition and guidance, opening up new linguistics courses within Russian universities, and also faculties of Russian universities in Africa. At the time of the first Russia-Africa Summit back in 2019, there were about 17,000 African students studying in Russia. Last year, it was 35,000.

We are coordinating quite closely with African colleagues <...> at the UN on a plethora of issues. Russia's position is more often than not closer to the stance adopted by the countries of the Global South, including Africa. As for Africa's representation within multilateral bodies, we are certainly supportive of these endeavors, including in the UN Security Council.

Russia is able to provide quite substantive technological advances, for example in the nuclear sphere, such as small modular reactors. It would certainly be useful to quenching African energy needs.

⚡️ On Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s telephone conversation with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio

🇷🇺🇺🇸📞 On February 15, at the initiative of the American Side, Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had a telephone conversation with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

Building on the February 12 telephone conversation between the Presidents of Russia and the United States, the two Foreign Ministers agreed to maintain an open channel of communication to address longstanding issues in Russian-American relations. Their goal is to remove unilateral barriers inherited from the previous US administration that have hindered mutually beneficial trade, economic and investment cooperation.

Both Sides expressed a shared commitment to engaging on key international issues, including the Ukraine settlement, developments in Palestine and the broader Middle East, as well as other regional matters.

The conversation also covered ways to swiftly reverse the restrictions on Russian diplomatic missions in the United States, which were introduced by the Obama administration in 2016 and led to reciprocal measures. It was agreed that expert-level meetings will be organised in the near future to coordinate specific steps towards removing these obstacles to the functioning of diplomatic missions in Russia and the United States.

❗️ Sergey Lavrov and Marco Rubio reaffirmed their readiness to restore a respectful and constructive interstate dialogue in line with the approach set by the Presidents. They agreed to maintain regular contact, including discussions on preparations for a potential high-level Russian-American summit.

🎙 Excerpt from Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov's remarks and answers to media questions following talks with US administration officials in Riyadh (18 February 2025)

💬 We let our US counterparts know that we took note of President Trump being the first Western leader to state clearly on several occasions that pulling Ukraine into NATO was one of the main reasons for what is happening now, and that this was one of the biggest mistakes made by Biden and his administration, and that if Trump were president, this would have never have happened.

In this regard, we were clear with our counterparts that President Putin has repeatedly emphasised that NATO expansion and absorption of Ukraine was a direct threat to the interests of the Russian Federation and our sovereignty.

Considering this, the presence of the troops from NATO countries [in Ukraine] under a foreign flag — an EU flag, or any national flag — does not change anything in this regard. This is unacceptable.

"We will not accept British troops on Ukrainian soil"

📺 Watch Ambassador Andrei Kelin’s interview with BBC Newsnight (19 February 2025)

Key talking points:

• [Russia-US talks in Riyadh] have three outcomes. First and foremost, it was the re-establishment of contacts and diplomacy with the United States, which is a precondition for everything else. Secondly, they have launched a process on the Ukrainian settlement, which is in the very initial phase. And third, both sides have agreed that we need full-scale relations between the US and Russia.

• We have proposed several compromises to the Ukrainians over the last 10 years: the Minsk I and then Minsk II agreements. We have tried to negotiate with them all the time. It has been rejected.

• If the Europeans are going to install certain contingents on the Ukrainian soil, it means that they are going to construct bases and infrastructure. That does not differ from NATO's presence on the territory of Ukraine. We will not accept the presence of military contingents from other European countries that are members of NATO on the Ukrainian soil.

❗️ The British government should understand the real situation as soon as possible and not try to prolong the suffering in Ukraine. It is much more important for the British government not to provide more weapons, but to think about how to restore Ukraine after what has happened <...> I call on the UK government to recognise that the course and the policy it has followed in recent years has been wrong.

• Since Zelensky's legitimacy expired in May last year, he should have elections, because we do not see how we can negotiate anything with him, because if he puts his signature on any kind of agreement and tomorrow he is not elected president, then that piece of paper will not be of much value.

We have no ideas and no plans at all to fight against NATO. All these claims that we have some plans to attack NATO in five or seven years' time are made by silly people who just want to have more money for defence.

💬 President Vladimir Putin: The purpose and subject of our negotiations [with the United States in Riyadh] was the restoration of Russian-American relations. <...>

Without enhancing the level of trust between Russia and the United States, it is impossible to solve many problems, including the Ukrainian crisis. The very purpose of this meeting was precisely to enhance trust between Russia and the United States.

As for other participants, first and foremost, Russia has never refused contacts with European counterparts. Russia has never turned its back on negotiations with Ukraine – never.

It is, in fact, our counterparts in these discussions who have chosen to withdraw. The Europeans terminated contacts with Russia, and the Ukrainian side has self-imposed a ban on negotiations, withdrawing from the Istanbul process and publicly announcing that.

Well, we are not imposing anything on anyone. We are prepared – I have already stated this a hundred times: if they so desire, let them conduct these negotiations, and we will be ready to return to the negotiating table. <...>

With regard to the negotiating process, President Trump told me during the phone call – and I can confirm this – that the United States is operating on the premise that the negotiating process will include both Russia and Ukraine.

No one is excluding Ukraine from this process.

💬 Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov: The predominance of conflicts and hotspots on the international agenda and their impact on global stability prove that it is impossible to ensure the security of some countries at the expense of the security of others.

Security can only be indivisible and equal for all. There is no place for hegemony or hostile bloc policies in a multipolar environment.

It is high time for the West to accept the new balance of power and start building a relationship with the majority of nations based on mutual respect.

We also discussed this with our US colleagues in Riyadh and agreed on the main point: international relations must be based on the understanding that each country has its own national interests.

Geopolitical contradictions can only be diffused through constructive cooperation relying on the principles of the UN Charter in their entirety and interconnection.

🗓 On this very day, 11 years ago, Kiev became ground zero for a Western-backed unconstitutional coup, that triggered all the events around Ukraine and its now former regions ever since. This led to an armed civil conflict, essentially a war waged by the Kiev regime against its own people, and a deepest crisis of international and European security since World War II.

11 years have passed since the tragic and horrible events of February 2014. The residing "authorities" in Kiev, aka the Kiev regime, and their Western sponsors are, as per their usual m.o., are attempting to distort the truth, conceal true facts, and turn the timeline of those events, their substance upside down.

❗️ The truth is stubborn; it tends to get revealed sooner or later, as recent events in the world have once again proven.

LEARN MORE: On the origins of Ukrainian nationalism, the crimes of the OUN-UPA, and the support of the West

The most horrific events unfolded on 20 February: the still unidentified snipers began shooting on the Institutskaya Street in the centre of Kiev at both law enforcement and protesters. Euromaidan supporters and Western politicians, seized "the opportunity", blamed the legitimate authorities of Ukraine. No evidence of Yanukovich's involvement was provided, and there is none to this day. Unlike, the Maidan activists & the opposition who benefited the most and was seen smuggling weapons into the area <...>

On 21 February, in an attempt to avoid further bloodshed, Yanukovych signed an Agreement on the Settlement of the Political Crisis in Ukraine with the opposition (from the opposition's side — Vitali Klitschko (UDAR party), Arseniy Yatsenyuk ("Fatherland"), and Oleg Tyagnybok ("Freedom")), which was supported and guaranteed by the foreign ministers of Germany, France, and Poland. This document envisaged the creation of a government of national trust, constitutional reform, and the organization of early presidential elections.

None of the Agreement's provisions were implemented.

The next day, on February 22, the Supreme Council passed a resolution on Viktor Yanukovych's "self-removal" from performing the duties of the President of Ukraine, thereby usurping power (although he remained a legitimate president, remained in Ukraine and had made no statements regarding resignation).

It was then announced that the "government of the victors (winner)" would be formed. The West turned a blind eye to all violations and hurried to declare a "change of power" in Ukraine, openly encouraging the putschists to pursue their anti-Russian policy. What ensued was basically a hunt for the remaining law enforcement officers and officials loyal to their oath and the country.

The very next day, the very first decision
of the new "government" through the Verkhovnaya Rada was to revoke the law on the status of the Russian language, which according to data was back then the mother tongue of the majority (!) of the Ukrainian citizens.

<...>

The "mediation" meddling of the West led to a sharp polarisation of Ukrainian society, which created the preconditions for an armed civil conflict. The first legislative steps of the "Maidan victors" — the abovementioned cancellation of the language law — were received with alarm in South-Eastern Ukraine, where spontaneous formation of popular militia forces began.

Kiev immediately accused all the inhabitants of the region of "state treason" and "terrorism", threw the army and neo-Nazi punitive battalions to violently suppress the protests.

<...>

❗️ "Euromaidan" created a deep rift in Ukrainian society, lead to persecution, fight against dissent, spread of nationalism and neo-Nazism, legal lawlessness and nihilism, fighting the Russian language and own history, complete degradation of the socio-economic situation in the country.

The terror and horror brought by the Ukrainian neo-Nazis and nationalists in 2014 must be brought to an end.

Denazification is imminent.

📖 Read, remember or learn more about these tragic events of 2014.

☝️ A new wave of illegitimate sanctions, imposed by London on 24 February, on the occasion of the third anniversary of the launch of the Special Military Operation, contrary to statements made by UK officials, is anything but "unprecedented".

It is yet another reenactment of the now tiresome sanction ritual, albeit slightly more vigorous than usual, necessitated by the British establishment ahead of the highly publicised trip of Prime Minister Keir Starmer to Washington.

Evidently, London is growing increasingly confident about its ability to convince the new U.S. administration of its "prowess", if not in the realm of increasing defense spending, then at least in the domain of multiplying harmful anti-Russian self-restraints. <...>

Naturally, the British government is well aware that such measures are futile and serve only to tarnish the image and business reputation of the United Kingdom itself. It is doubtful that anyone added to the "blacklist" had actually been eager to visit Britain in the first instance. Having severed nearly all ties to Russia, London has effectively removed itself from the list of attractive destinations for business and even tourist trips. <...>

Attempts to exert economic pressure against Russia are in vain. Our country has successfully adapted to the West’s unilateral restrictive measures. <...>

The British economy, by contrast, is facing hard times. The pursuit of short-term political ambitions, coupled with ill-considered steps taken in an anti-Russian frenzy, is costing the country a fortune. <...>

Against this background, the moment chosen by London to whip up the sanctions hysteria is quite symbolic — at a delicate time when the foundations of the future Ukraine settlement process are being shaped in line with the Russia-US agreements.

Much as on the eve of the Special Military Operation and in the spring of 2022, the British establishment does not sit well with the prospect of a peaceful détente in Europe. Therefore, despite having all the means to support efforts to find a solution to the Ukraine crisis, London repeatedly opts for confrontation and coercive pressure.

🎙 Highlights from President Vladimir Putin's answers to media questions

• The person who currently stands at the helm of the Kiev regime is becoming a toxic figure for the Ukrainian armed forces. He issues clumsy, ill-considered orders guided by a political agenda instead of military imperatives. <...> He is also becoming increasingly toxic for society in general.

• [Zelensky] has boxed himself into a corner by signing an order banning peace talks with the Russian Federation. He was the one who stopped these talks. What is this all about? What this means is that he evades talks. Why? Because once the talks begin, sooner or later, and probably quite quickly, they will lead to an end to martial law. Once this happens, he will have to hold an election.

• The Kiev regime leader will stand absolutely no chance of winning an election. His chances are zero – unless, of course, he blatantly rigs the election in one way or another

• President Trump's goal is to restore political stability in Ukraine, consolidate society and enable the Ukrainian state to survive. Overall, this benefits Ukraine more than Russia, since our conflict is with the current regime, not the country itself.

• We do not want Ukraine to be used as a launchpad for aggression against the Russian Federation, or as a hostile outpost targeting us. At the end of the day, we want it to evolve into a friendly neighbourly state.

• Unlike the US President, European political leaders are deeply entangled with the Kiev regime. They have made too many statements and promises and now it is very difficult or almost impossible for them to backtrack without losing face.

• Of course it is important that Europeans take part in the negotiating process. We have never refused anyone's request. In fact, we kept the conversation going with them at all times. But then came a point when they came up with this far-fetched and illusionary idea of defeating Russia on the battlefield. So it was they who rejected all contacts with us.

UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy has once again resorted to unacceptable verbal attacks against our country and its leadership.

The reason for the outburst is clear – the Russian Armed Forces have firmly seized the initiative on the battlefield, whereas the "Ukrainian project" is teetering on the brink of collapse. Moreover, by routinely accusing Russia of harbouring "imperialist" designs the British political class has exposed its own "phantom pains" of being unable to come to terms with the UK's waning international relevance.

The Foreign Secretary's growing interest in historical studies is noteworthy. However, his attempts to doctor past events to fit his own monochrome worldview are unlikely to succeed. The pronouncement that Russia is somehow responsible for undermining European security agreements borders on the absurd. This distorted logic is further confirmed by allegations of Russia having "betrayed" the Minsk Agreements and the relevant Package of implementation measures.

Public admissions by former high-ranking officials – Petr Poroshenko, Angela Merkel, Francois Hollande as well as Boris Johnson, recently resurfaced, demonstrate that they all regarded the Minsk Agreements as a ruse to win time for the Ukrainian army to prepare to resolve the "Donbass problem" by military means.

This is just one example of many that attests to the pathological inability of the Ukrainian leadership to honour its commitments, as well as the "quality" of guarantees provided by its European sponsors.

Since David Lammy has on several occasions displayed a keen awareness of George Kennan's so-called "Long Telegram", we would advise him to look into and consider the American diplomat's subsequent observations. In particular, his candid assessments of NATO's eastward expansion, which Kennan described as a "strategic blunder" and a "fateful error". This clear-sighted analysis of the underlying causes of the Ukraine crisis should be taken into account by the British leadership, which so fervently defends Ukraine's "irreversible path" towards the alliance.

❗️ Meanwhile, the Foreign Secretary's statements make it clear that London's current agenda is to attempt to derail the process leading to the peaceful resolution of the conflict that has been provoked with the UK's active involvement.
