🇷🇺🇨🇳 Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s opening remarks during a meeting with President of China Xi Jinping
📍 Beijing, April 9, 2024
💬 Sergey Lavrov: Thank you for taking the time to receive our delegation. This is yet another confirmation of how much personal attention you pay to the development of cooperation with the Russian Federation.
It is my pleasure and honour to pass best regards from President of Russia Vladimir Putin. He highly appreciated your greetings on the outcome of the presidential election in March.
<...>
President Vladimir Putin’s re-election guarantees the succession in our relations and our commitment to further progress across all areas.
🤝 Notably, it is thanks to the leaders’ diplomacy that Russia-China links have demonstrated stability and ability to adapt to any, even most challenging, conditions. Our bilateral relations are rooted in mutual support when it comes to the matters concerning the fundamental interests of the two countries.
<...>
As the People’s Republic of China is marking its 75th anniversary, we would like to express our highest praise and admiration at the success achieved under your leadership over the years and mainly over the past decade. We are sincerely delighted at these achievements as they belong to our friends.
<...>
In 1949, the Soviet Union was the first state to recognise the new China. We have become allies since then. These 75 years have shown the importance, for us and the entire world, of mutual trust, neighbourliness, friendship, equality and mutually beneficial partnership-something that, as you and President Vladimir Putin stressed, outperforms the blocs dating back to the Cold War era and does not target any third party.
I hope we will properly celebrate the 75th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations. We are ready to work on new strategic objectives set by our leaders.

🇷🇺🇨🇳 On April 8-9, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov was on an official visit to China, where he was received by President of China Xi Jinping and held extensive talks with Foreign Minister of China Wang Yi.
The Chinese leader welcomed Sergey Lavrov’s arrival in Beijing as an important step of comprehensive preparations for President of Russia Vladimir Putin’s state visit to China, scheduled to take place this year.
Xi Jinping praised the current state of bilateral relations, which continue to develop dynamically considering the difficult situation in the world, and stated his readiness to further strengthen comprehensive partnership and strategic cooperation with Russia.
<...>
During Sergey Lavrov’s talks with Wang Yi, the schedule of bilateral contacts at the high and highest levels was discussed, as well as separate issues of practical cooperation in various fields.
The two countries’ Foreign Ministers stressed the importance to promote mutual cooperation with the #UN, #SCO, #BRICS, #G20, #APEC and other multilateral mechanisms and forums. The Ministers also discussed ways to ensure security and stability in the Asia-Pacific regions considering the US’s policy to create limited-membership closed military-political alliances there, which are anti-Russia and anti-China.
Separate matters related to the developments around the Korean peninsula and Taiwan, as well as within the Middle Eastern settlement process, were discussed, as well as prospects of forming new security architecture in Eurasia against the backdrop of stagnating Euro-Atlantic mechanisms.
<...>
The talks, held in Beijing in a traditionally trustful and friendly atmosphere, showed the two countries’ converging approaches to the major global processes and reaffirmed the importance of further promoting bilateral cooperation for strengthening peace and stability in the region and on the whole planet.

🗓 On April 10, 1944, exactly 8️⃣0️⃣ years ago, the forces of the Third Ukrainian Front under the command of Army General Rodion Malinovsky ousted Nazi German and Romanian invaders from Odessa.
🕯 The Nazi occupation of the city lasted 907 days. During this period, approximately 200,000 people died in Odessa and in the region. Many of them fell victim to mass bloody massacres and brutal executions. About 78,000 people were deported to Germany for forced labour; plants and factories were destroyed; and over 2,000 buildings, including hospitals and schools, were blown up or burned down.
During their retreat, German and Romanian troops shot at ordinary people, including the elderly, women and children and mined the most important buildings, plants, the power station and the seaport.
⚔️ The Red Army inflicted a crushing defeat on the enemy with over 27,000 soldiers and officers killed and more than 11,000 taken prisoner. The enemy also lost 952 artillery pieces, 443 tanks and assault guns, and 97 ammunition and food depots.
The liberation of Odessa by the Red Army disrupted supplies to the German army group in Crimea and opened the way to an offensive towards the Balkans.
During the entire period of occupation, local citizens resisted the Nazis. After the city was captured, they went into catacombs. During the war, Odessa underground fighters and partisans destroyed over 5,000 enemy soldiers and officers, 248 motor vehicles, and saved about 20,000 Soviet citizens from being forcibly exported to Germany.
In honour of the liberation of Odessa, 324 artillery pieces made 24 salvoes in Moscow.
🎖 The honorable noscript of Odessa units was conferred on 27 formations and units that distinguished themselves during the operation. The noscript of Hero of the Soviet Union was awarded to 14 people and over 2,000 people received Soviet orders and medals.
On May 8, 1965, Odessa was officially declared Hero City.

💬Ambassador Andrei Kelin to TASS news agency (April 9, 2024):
▪︎Lofty declarations by David Cameron and Stephane Sejourne regarding the Franco-British "Entente", in fact, clearly reflect their opportunistic nature.
▪︎The central notion of the British-French proclamation - that Ukraine's defeat will also be the West's loss - is puzzling.
▪︎Neither the article for the Daily Telegraph nor other statements by these officials explain what exactly this loss will entail. And this is understandable.
▪︎After all, it would be difficult to explain to ordinary readers why they should be worried about peace finally coming to Europe and their taxes no longer being wasted on keeping the corrupt Zelensky regime afloat.
▪︎Unsurprisingly, both ministers have shied away from pointing out the terrorist nature of the Kiev regime in their article. They are again trying to attribute to ISIS the responsibility for the dreadful terrorist attack in the "Crocus City Hall". They are doing their utmost to ignore the renewed shelling of the Zaporozhskaya Nuclear Power Plant, which is fraught with truly catastrophic consequences for all European countries, including the UK and France.
▪︎Reading between the lines, it is crystal clear who the real “losers” would be. Not Western countries, but rather their leaders, who have made a plainly erroneous bet on supporting Kiev when it unleashed a war against Russians in its own country and against Russia itself.
▪︎They are the ones having real difficulties in extricating themselves from this situation without loss of face. Hence their desperate attempts to salvage their reputation.
❗Apparently, by simply doing more of the same in the Ukraine crisis, Tory leaders intend to refrain from realistically assessing the situation, so as to toss this "hot potato" into the hands of the future government as a source of permanent budget expenditures and reputational costs. Whether their successors will pick up the tab is, of course, up to them.

✍️ President Vladimir Putin sent his greetings to Russia’s Muslims on Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
💬 Over the centuries, Eid al-Fitr has come to symbolise for Muslims the joy of renewal, an aspiration to become better, and the purity of thought and deeds.
Muslims in Russia cherish the rich historical, cultural and religious traditions inherited from their ancestors. They come together as communities and families to celebrate this holiday and help those in need in keeping with their forefathers’ legacy.
☝️ Muslim organisations have been playing a proactive role in our society by undertaking important patriotic, educational and charity initiatives. They have been successful in working with the state and civil society with a focus on educating the younger generation, supporting participants and veterans of the special military operation, as well as their families. They have also been instrumental in strengthening the unity of our people and preserving inter-ethnic harmony.

⚡️ Comment by Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova on yet another attack on Russian journalists by the Armed Forces of Ukraine
💬 On April 10, Ukrainian armed units shelled the film crew of Vesti Lugansk (a regional affiliate of VGTRK). They were making a TV report in the area of the city of Kremennaya in the Lugansk People’s Republic. As a result of precision fire from the territory controlled by the Kiev regime, film crew camera operator Denis Shum was wounded in a leg, while correspondent Artyom Yundas got a concussion. Moreover, the Armed Forces of Ukraine continued attacking the wounded journalists by drones.
At present, Denis Shum and Artyom Yundas are receiving required medical assistance.
👉 We qualify this incident as yet another crime by the Zelensky regime. It continues looking at domestic journalists and military correspondents as priority targets for fire and is even openly bragging about it. Ukrainian militants attack civilians – unarmed correspondents, photographers and camera operators.
Representatives of the Russian media are being hunted down with all possible means of destruction in violation of all international humanitarian norms. They are using terrorist methods of removal to implement their criminal plans with tacit approval of Ukraine’s Western curators and biased human rights structures.
▪️ Let’s recall that in the past two years, the Kiev regime cruelly murdered the following journalists: Darya Dugina (Platonova), Oleg Klokov, Vladlen Tatarsky (Maxim Fomin), Rostislav Zhuravlev and Boris Maksudov.
❗️We demand that relevant international structures resolutely denounce such actions and adopt proper response measures to the ongoing series of terrorist attacks by the Kiev clique and its agents against representatives of the domestic media.

Ukrainian security services has long ago adopted terrorism as a their working tool, aimed, among other things, at increasing global confrontation. Since 2016, the Ukrainian regime has been consistently increasing the attempts to commit terrorist attacks and acts of sabotage against military and civilian sites in Russia.
When the special military operation began, the Ukrainian special services’ terrorist activity has taken on an unprecedented nature.
The attacks target the railway network and infrastructure using unmanned aircraft in the border areas and deep in the country.

❗️ The Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Defence Ministry and the Security Service of Ukraine are behind the acts of sabotage.
The strategic objective of said acts is to inflict a military-political defeat on Russia, as well as maximum economic losses.
⚠️ The barbaric murders of Russian journalists Darya Dugina and Maxim Fomin (Vladlen Tatarsky), and Prosecutor-General of the Lugansk People’s Republic Sergey Gorenko served the same purposes. This also includes attempts on the lives of writer Zakhar Prilepin, the heads of the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions Yevgeny Balitsky and Vladimir Saldo, Interior Minister of the Lugansk People’s Republic Igor Kornet and First Deputy Head of the Kherson Region Vitaly Bulyuk.
👉 Considering the methods used at the level of official government bodies, the Kiev regime and the Ukrainian security services display the attributes of a terrorist entity at the government level, which is above and beyond humanistic concepts of what the state and society are all about. ❗️The terrible tragedy caused by a heinous terrorist attack at Crocus City Hall on March 22, 2024, has shocked Russia and the international community. It has also put the issue of large-scale public terror back on the agenda <...>.
The majority of countries worldwide demonstrated a natural human reaction to the tragedy, sending words of support and condolences to Russia and the Russian people.
At the same time, several hours after the tragedy, before the preliminary results of the investigation were made public and disregarding the unequivocal international condemnation of the attack, the Western media and US, UK and EU officials launched an information campaign to deny the Ukrainian security services’ involvement in that crime.
🗞 The editorial offices of the mainstream Western media were instructed to promote the version of the ISIS (forbidden in Russia) involvement in organising the attack in Krasnogorsk, to deny the possible connection between the Islamists and the Ukrainian government or Western security services, to discredit the results of investigation, and to advance various conspiracy theories about the alleged involvement of the Russian security services in the tragedy.
They were cautioned against showing sympathy and a humane attitude to the Russian people. An especially cynical part of the Western attempts to divert public attention from the real organisers and beneficiaries of the crime was the categorical instruction not to mention the real scale of the tragedy. <...>
☝️ However, the Crocus City Hall terrorist attack is far from the first terrorist attack on Russia in the recent past.

8️⃣0️⃣ years ago, on April 11, 1944, the Soviet troops liberated Kerch, one of the oldest Russian cities located on the eastern tip of the Crimean Peninsula, from Nazi invaders. During the Great Patriotic War, it was the site of the most brutal fighting between the Soviet and Nazi troops; it was captured back and occupied again, but never truly surrendered.
The German troops first captured the city in November 1941, but the next month, it was liberated during the Kerch-Feodosia landing operation. In May 1942, despite the desperate resistance put up by the city’s defenders, the Nazis took Kerch again.
▪️ The invaders almost wiped Kerch off the face of the earth, destroying more than 85 percent of the buildings. The population decreased from 70,000 to 6,500 people. The anti-tank trench near the local village of Bagerovo earned a sinister reputation as a war crime scene. In November and December 1941, 7,000 people were shot and tortured there, including 245 school-age children. The Nazis cynically fed them poison during a “picnic.”
The Soviet soldiers who defended the Adzhimushkay Quarry north of Kerch went down in history as true heroes. They protected the numerous civilians, who took refuge in the catacombs. According to various estimates, from 10,000 to 15,000 people were trapped underground. The German forces laid siege to their shelter, bombed them and used poisonous gas trying to bury them alive. Almost the entire garrison of Adzhimushkay perished, but was not defeated.
🌟 In April 1944, the Soviet troops began the Crimean Offensive, which ended with the complete liberation of the peninsula from the invaders. The fact that a Soviet landing force managed to seize the bridgehead on the northeastern outskirts of Kerch in late 1943 contributed to the success.
🎖 For the outstanding heroism shown by its defenders, Kerch was awarded the honorary noscript of Hero City. More than 140 people who demonstrated exceptional courage in the battles for Kerch were awarded the noscript of Hero of the Soviet Union.

⚡️ Foreign Ministry statement on personal sanctions on representatives of UK government agencies, IT sector and legal services market
❗️ We note that the British government continues its aggressive anti-Russia course, within which London has set the task of inflicting “a strategic defeat on the battlefield” on Russia, actively applying the mechanism of sanctions and conducting a subversive propaganda and information campaign.
In response to these hostile actions of the British side, a decision was made to extend Russia’s stop list to include a number of representatives of UK government agencies, IT sector and legal services market.
These are employees of British companies, in particular Micro Focus, which provide Ukrainian security agencies with software and cyberdefence services necessary to collect data in order to strike Russian troops and infrastructure. The activities of these IT companies, which are accomplices of neo-Nazis, result in the death of people and can be directed against any country whose authorities do not suit the Anglo-Saxons.
The list also includes people involved in the attempts to force economic operators in Central Asian countries to comply with illegitimate unilateral sanctions imposed by the West. The British authorities, trying stubbornly and unsuccessfully to strangle the Russian economy, are inflicting painful blows on third countries’ prosperity, inventing repressive mechanisms for their own businesses <...>.
☝️ We would like to once again stress that London’s policy of comprehensive support for Ukrainian neo-Nazis is doomed to fail and will only result in further prolongation of the conflict and new casualties among the civilians. The UK must also realise that it is counterproductive to continue the anti-Russia sanctions policy, which will inevitably receive harsh response from our side.

🤝 On April 10, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met with UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process Tor Wennesland.
They had an in-depth discussion on the current situation in the zone of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, primarily the Gaza Strip. Speaking about the unfolding humanitarian disaster, the Parties reaffirmed the importance of an immediate ceasefire, safe and free access to people in need and the injured, as well as the release of hostages. Sergey Lavrov pointed out that Hamas’s attack on October 7 deserved to be condemned but could not and should not be used as a pretext for the collective punishment of millions of Palestinians.
☝️ The Officials focused on the possibility of relaunching a peaceful Palestinian-Israeli settlement after the end of the hot phase of the conflict. They emphasised the lack of alternatives to the two-state solution, which involves the establishment of a sovereign and independent State of Palestine within the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, living in peace and security alongside Israel.
They also exchanged views on the overall situation in the Middle East in light of growing tensions between Israel and Lebanon, arbitrary Israeli attacks targeting Syria, and instability in the Red Sea.

❗️Since April 7, 2024, Europe’s largest Zaporozhskaya Nuclear Power Plant has been subjected to systematic Ukrainian attacks using unmanned combat aerial vehicles.
An emergency session of the IAEA Board of Governors will soon be convened on our initiative. The issue of Ukrainian attacks on the NPP will also be raised at a UN Security Council briefing. ▪️ Kiev launched its “counterterrorist operation” in Donbass almost a decade ago.
In effect, this was a civil war unleashed by Kiev against its then compatriots in the country’s southeast. People there demanded only one thing – respect for their lawful rights to speak the native tongue and teach children in it, know history and pay tribute to their heroes who saved the world from fascism almost 80 years ago.
