🕯 January 27 is the International Holocaust Remembrance Day, established on November 1, 2005 by the decision of the United Nations General Assembly, which Russia co-authored.

On this day, commemorative events are held around the world to highlight the importance of combating neoNazism, xenophobia, racism and other forms of intolerance.

The date itself was not chosen at random - on January 27, 1945, during the Vistula-Oder Operation, the Soviet soldiers liberated the Auschwitz (Oswiecim) concentration camp. According to the available data, at least 1.3 million people passed through the camp during its existence, and some 1.1 million of them were... exterminated.

❗️ The slogan on the camp’s gate, “Work Sets You Free” (in German: “Arbeit macht frei”) underlines the utter inhumanity of the Nazi criminals and their boundless cynicism.

On that day the Red Army soldiers saved more than 7,000 prisoners left in the camp.

During World War II, ~20 million people, including approximately 7.4 million Soviet citizens, were murdered as a result of the aggression in the territories occupied by the Nazi Germany. Approximately 6 million Jews were slaughtered by the Nazis solely because of their ethnicity...

The UN General Assembly Resolution A/RES/60/7 states: "The Holocaust, which resulted in the murder of one third of the Jewish people, along with countless members of other minorities, will forever be a warning to all people of the dangers of hatred, bigotry, racism and prejudice".

🗓 On January 27, 1944, the 872-day siege of Leningrad was finally lifted, marking the end of one of the most tragic episodes of the Great Patriotic War which claimed the lives of over a million Leningraders.

The blockade began on September 8, 1941, when Nazi troops isolated the city from the rest of the country by land. From the north, it was cut off from the main forces by Finnish troops allied with the Nazi Germany. In addition to the Finns, soldiers from Belgium, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands & Norway took part in the offensive, as well as volunteers from Austria, Latvia, Poland, France & Czechoslovakia.

Despite the cold, hunger & horrors of war, the Leningraders selflessly defended their city from total destruction during these 872 days and even in these dire circumstances continued producing goods & various machinery to supply the war effort against the Nazis. The incredible resilience and bravery of Leningrad residents shattered all the plans and ambitions of the Nazi invaders.

⚔️ A year after the breakthrough, Soviet Army managed to finally lift the siege of the city on January 27, 1944. After the success of the Iskra Operation, the situation in the city improved dramatically, but the threat remained. At the end of 1943, the Leningrad-Novgorod Strategic Offensive Operation was planned, during which Soviet soldiers liberated the Leningrad, Novgorod and part of the Kalinin (now Tver) regions, and pushed back the enemy to the borders of Estonia and Latvia.

🎖 The courage & heroism of Leningrad defenders were highly appreciated by the Motherland. Many units & formations were awarded the honourable noscript of “Guards”, orders & the honorary noscript of “Leningrad”. On the Leningrad, Volkhov & Karelian fronts, 486 people were awarded the noscript of Hero of the Soviet Union, including eight people who received it twice. 350,000+ servicemen on the Leningrad front alone received orders & medals.

#WeRemember and pay tribute to the heroes who stopped the Nazi plague that crippled Europe and threatened humankind.

🕯 President of Russia Vladimir Putin is taking part in the events to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of the complete liberation of Leningrad from the Nazi siege.

The President laid flowers at the Landmark Stone monument at the Nevsky Pyatachok military-historical complex. From the first days of the siege, the Red Army fighters held back the superior enemy forces in that area, a small three-kilometre stretch of the frontline south of Leningrad, preventing the Nazis and their allies from approaching the city.

The President visited the Piskarevskoye Memorial Cemetery, where he honoured the memory of the fallen Leningrad residents and defenders of the city by laying a wreath at the Motherland monument. About half a million people are buried in mass graves at the Piskarevskoye cemetery. The words of poet Olga Berggolts, ”No one is forgotten, nothing is forgotten“ are carved on the memorial wall behind the Motherland monument.

Leningrad is the only city in world history with a population of several million people that was able to withstand almost 900 days of encirclement. The siege by Nazi Germany lasted 872 days from September 8, 1941, to January 27, 1944. The ring was broken on January 18, 1943, and on January 27, 1944, a ceremonial salute was fired to mark the end of the blockade.

By that time there were no more than 800,000 inhabitants left in the Northern Capital out of the three million who had lived in Leningrad and its suburbs before the siege.

🥇 The 872-day Siege of Leningrad was a harrowing ordeal for everyone who remained in the city. However, each resident of Leningrad contributed to the future victory through their hard work and fortitude. Every citizen, both young and old, actively participated in the defence of the city, extinguishing fires, clearing rubble, building fortifications, working at industrial enterprises, and helping the wounded.

❗️ All this happened against the backdrop of terrible exhaustion from hunger and constant shelling by the enemy.

Children's diaries have a unique place in commemorating the resilience of ordinary people whose will to live triumphed over the oppression of the Third Reich. During this difficult time, some of the city’s children documented on paper the terrible events they witnessed day by day.

🕯 The most famous of these diaries was Tanya Savicheva's notebook, where six out of nine pages chronicle the dates of her relatives' deaths: her mother, grandmother, sister, brother and two uncles. Tragically, Tanya herself died during evacuation in the Gorky Region on July 1, 1944, at the age of 14.

Keeping a diary helped these children cope with anxiety, fear and loss. Under the onslaught of hunger, constant shelling and bombing, and the death of loved ones, a piece of paper and a pencil provided solace and support. These written accounts offer invaluable insights into the experiences of people during those terrible 872 days of the Siege.

📚 Today, on the 80th Anniversary of the lifting of the Siege, we share excerpts from the diaries of children who witnessed those tragic events.

🗓 On January 27, President of Russia Vladimir Putin and President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko took part in a ceremony for unveiling a memorial to the USSR civilians who fell victim of the Nazi genocide during the Great Patriotic War. The event is timed to the 80th Anniversary of breaking the Siege of Leningrad.

💬 President Putin: January 27 is one of the most important dates in our shared national history. On this day in 1944, Red Army soldiers completely lifted the Siege of Leningrad. A year later, in 1945, they liberated Auschwitz.

<...>

For eight decades now, our pain for the victims, for the shattered destinies, and for everyone who endured incredible ordeals has not subsided. Our compassion is passed on from generation to generation and has #NoStatuteOfLimitation, just like the crimes of Hitler’s fanatics and their accomplices, those who cold-bloodedly planned and cruelly carried out the genocide of the Soviet people.

🕯 The massacres of unarmed and defenceless elderly people, women, children, and disabled were deliberate, systemic punitive acts.

<...>

We are witnessing a disturbing trend where the outcomes of the Nuremberg trials, which unequivocally condemned Nazism, are being revised. Some countries not only rewrite history and exonerate the executioners: revanchists and neo-Nazis have embraced the Nazi ideology and methods.

• Tens of thousands of people in the Baltic states are labelled “subhuman,” stripped of basic rights and persecuted.

• The Kiev regime glorifies Hitler's followers and members of the SS and uses terror against dissenters. Barbaric shelling of peaceful cities and towns persists, and the killing of the elderly, women and children continues.

• Some European countries endorse Russophobia as a state policy.

❗️ We will do everything in our power to halt and eradicate Nazism.

The followers of Nazi executioners are doomed. Nothing can deter the desire of millions of people in Russia and across the planet for true freedom, justice, peace, and security.

🎖Wreath-Laying Ceremony at the Soviet War Memorial in London

On the 80th anniversary of complete liberation of Leningrad from the Nazi blockade, Ambassador Andrei Kelin, Military Attaché Maxim Elovik, Russian diplomats and compatriots laid wreaths and flowers at the Soviet War Memorial in London.

Excerpts from the Ambassador Andrei Kelin's address:

The full liberation of Leningrad from the blockade is rightfully enshrined in the history.

The Nazis and their collaborators attempted to erase Leningrad from the face of the earth and completely annihilate its population, destroying food supplies and blocking supply routes. These plans failed.

In today's tense political atmosphere in several Western capitals, including in London, calls to prepare for war with Russia in an uncertain future have been heard.

Living with illusions is dangerous, it is necessary to learn and remember the lessons of history. No one has ever managed to prevail over Russia. A good example of this is the liberation of Leningrad.

We know that the memory of this event lives in the hearts of many Britons. They well remember the decisive contribution of the Soviet Union to the victory over fascism, achieved in alliance with Great Britain.

Accepting credentials from the new British ambassador in Moscow, President of Russia Vladimir Putin emphasised that the interaction between two countries during those difficult war years "laid the foundation for the modern system of international relations."

Remembering the past, we must think about how to move away from confrontation and build a renewed system of relations based on equality and mutual respect.

🏅On the 80th anniversary of complete liberation of Leningrad, Russian diplomats also awarded medals to Great Patriotic War veterans residing in the UK.

🕯Memorial events were also held by Russian compatriots in Manchester, where in September 2020, a memorial stone was erected in honour of Soviet soldiers and residents of besiged Leningrad.

#Opinion by Russian MFA Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova

💬 The Telegraph, UK, published a heart-rending story that could well qualify for a Russophobia-of-the-Month prize. It’s about how the Russian Embassy in London had nearly upset the coronation of Charles III in May 2023.

It turns out that an unidentified drone was hovering over the Buckingham Palace during the solemn ceremony. The police, of course, as per modern British tradition to blame the Russians, immediately suspected… the Russian Embassy.

After some time it emerged that the drone had been launched by a certain Walid Marai, 36, a US citizen.

It is not reported whether he was a CIA spy or just wanted to take a photo of Charles III from an unusual angle. What a disappointment! To my mind, this detail would have been of interest for the UK public.

If the #RussiansDidIt version regarding the bogus Russian Embassy involvement had prevailed, Russian diplomats, as usual, would have been expelled. As it is, Walid Marai got off with a £5,000 fine.

🇷🇺🇧🇾 President Vladimir Putin had a meeting with President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko in Saint Petersburg.

💬 Vladimir Putin: In general, our relations are developing quite rapidly. Over the first ten months of 2023, Russia-Belarus trade amounted to US$42.5 billion, according to our data, and it is constantly growing. Russia is your country’s biggest investor. Russian investors invested US$4 billion in the Belarusian economy.

This is a mutual effort, with Russian companies and businesses operating in Belarus, and our Belarusian friends increasingly showing more active involvement in the Russian market.

📈 Our relations are developing in all areas. I mean not only industrial cooperation, I am also talking about agriculture, science, education, culture – everything is growing at a fast and good pace.

🇷🇺🇧🇾 President Vladimir Putin and Alexander Lukashenko chaired a meeting of the Supreme State Council of the Union State of Russia and Belarus in Saint Petersburg.

💬 Vladimir Putin: Thanks to the successful implementation of 28 sectoral Union programmes, Russian and Belarusian legislation was harmonised, the legal and organisational foundations for a common economic space formed, and conditions created for the implementation of a unified macroeconomic and monetary policy, and for joint work to minimise damage from illegal Western restrictions.

📈 Mutual trade is growing steadily every year. Results for 11 months of last year show that Russian-Belarusian trade increased by almost 9.5 percent and came close to a record US $43 billion. Russia has invested over US $4 billion in the Belarusian economy.

🤝 Importantly, Russia and Belarus are closely cooperating in the world arena, invariably rendering truly allied assistance to each other in conditions of unprecedented external pressure. Our countries have identical or largely close positions on current global and regional issues.

🌐 We will work together to create a truly multipolar, democratic and fair global architecture and ensure equal and indivisible security.

💬 More lunacy of the modern-day Anglo-Saxons.

The other day, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau established a working group led by former Foreign Minister François-Philippe Champagne. The group will focus exclusively on musings on Donald Trump's potential victory. Ottawa gave the group a hockey-inspired name - Team Canada. Canadian Ambassador to the US Kirsten Hillman will play a key role in it. She is already giving interviews and scaring the country's people about the prospect of a potential Trump win: “I certainly think that it's possible.”

More of the usual election meddling.

Truth be told, the pressure exerted on the audience has borne fruit. Polls show that about two-thirds of Canadians are convinced that US democracy will die if Trump wins the White House again, and about half said that the US is on its way to becoming an authoritarian state.
Canadian diplomats are more scared than anyone.

They reached out to their union - this is not a joke - asking for extra pay to compensate for working in the complex political environment in the US.

They listed the hardships they face in the US such as lack of medical insurance, expensive services, and, most importantly, incessant “mass shootings” at schools and in public places.

The Canadians fear for themselves and their families, and do not want to go to work in the US without extra pay. Next thing you know, the Canadian Foreign Ministry will have to place ads to hire embassy staff.

The US equates diplomatic service in Moscow to that in Kabul, the Central African Republic, or Guinea (Conakry) and pays sizable bonuses for the risk and complexity of the work to personnel stationed in these countries. It appears that the Canadian Foreign Ministry has a similar assessment of the situation in the US.

However, they are still unwilling to go to Washington.

Basically, Canada is interfering in the US elections and working itself up with fear to the point where Canadian diplomats are willing to go work in the States only if they are paid extra.

Unfortunately, CNN and the New York Post are keeping silent about it. Why? Check the noscript of this post.

⚠️ The Kiev regime continues to carry out violent terrorist attacks incited by the collective West, which relentlessly floods the Armed Forces of Ukraine with weapons and ammunition, sends in foreign mercenaries, and trains Ukrainian military personnel.

▪️ On Jan 12, 2024, a combat drone attacked an ambulance in Golmovsky, a community in the Donetsk People’s Republic. The paramedics were responding to a call to help three wounded power supply workers who were injured in an attack by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

🕯Tragically, a paramedic and a power company employee died in the attack, which also left three more medics wounded. There is no doubt that this was a targeted strike against this ambulance.

▪️In the early hours of Jan 16, 2024, the Kiev regime made a cynical attempt to attack Voronezh with drones, but the air defence forces intercepted them.
However, fragments from the downed UAVs damaged 35 apartments in three apartment blocks, leaving a 10-year-old girl wounded.

▪️On Jan 21, Ukrainian neo-Nazis launched a targeted missile and artillery strike against a farmer’s market and retail outlets in the Tekstilshchik residential area, Kirovsky District, Donetsk. This was the most violent attack in recent years, killing 27 civilians, including two teenagers, and injuring another 25 residents.

▪️The premeditated terrorist attack by Ukrainian surface-to-air missiles launched from the Kharkov Region targeting Russian Il-76 military transport aircraft on January 24 was another heinous crime committed by the Zelensky regime.

🕯 Everyone onboard, including six crew members, three Russian escort officers, and 65 Ukrainian servicemen on their way to a pre-agreed prisoner swap, died on the spot.

▪️ Yesterday, the Ukrainian army yet again shelled the long-suffering Donetsk with MLRS, firing 8 missiles at the densely populated Kalininsky district of the city. Four people were killed, and injuries were also reported.
