🌐 The conference traditionally brings together government officials, energy companies, international investors and regulators to discuss the future of Africa’s energy sector, from energy security and investment to the development of renewable and nuclear technologies.
The final day of the conference featured active participation by the South African division of Rosatom. Its head, Ryan Collyer, took part in several discussions focused on the development of nuclear energy and workforce training for the sector across the continent.

Russia is interested in entering African markets, which are among the fastest-growing in the world. This was stated by Russia’s Minister of Economic Development Maxim Reshetnikov.
According to Maxim Reshetnikov, priority areas for cooperation with African countries include:
• agriculture and the agro-industrial sector
• energy resources
• the application of Russian technologies

"Russian volunteers served as officers, scouts, and fighters within Boer commando units, bringing skill, discipline, and courage to the conflict. Many lost their lives on the battlefield, while others were wounded or captured. Memoirs and personal accounts confirm that several Russian volunteers were killed in action, but due to inconsistent record-keeping, the exact number of Russian casualties remains unknown.
An unknown number of Russian volunteers were captured by British forces and sent to overseas POW camps, including the island of St. Helena. Notable prisoners included Alexander Guchkov, who later became Minister of Defence in the Russian Provisional Government, and Prince Nikolay Bagration-Mukhransky, affectionately known as “Nikol the Boer” for his passionate support of the Boer cause.
Russian solidarity extended beyond the battlefield. Two ambulance units were dispatched to South Africa. One funded by the Russian government through the Russian Red Cross, and another Russian-Dutch unit supported by public donations. These teams established wartime hospitals in towns and cities and worked under harsh conditions in field hospitals on the front lines.
Russian doctors, nurses, and medical orderlies provided care to hundreds of wounded civilians as well as members of both Boer and British forces across the Transvaal, the Orange Free State, and Natal."

Allow me to deliver this statement on behalf of the following countries:
People's Democratic Republic of Algeria, Republic of Belarus, Federative Republic of Brazil, Burkina-Faso, People’s Republic of China, Arab Republic of Egypt, Republic of India, Republic of Indonesia, Islamic Republic of Iran, Republic of Niger, Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Russian Federation, Republic of South Africa.
The IAEA Secretariat initiated the extensive efforts to explore the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) with a view to enhance efficiency and effectiveness of the Agency's work.
We note the application of AI technologies both in the IAEA administrative processes and its programmatic activities. We recognize that such systems might streamline workflows, automate repetitive processes, and lower administrative expenditures.
At the same time, integrating AI tools into the Agency’s work demands thorough oversight of data protection, risk management and ethical aspects. It is crucial that AI models are trained on a non-biased datasets and remain within the Agency's own infrastructure. This is particularly critical for programmatic activities where the Secretariat handles sensitive or confidential data provided by Member States, specifically in the fields of safeguards and nuclear security.
In this regard, we reiterate our position that the integration of AI applications into the Agency's activities must remain a controlled, responsible, and transparent process. We also emphasize that, at some point, the continued use of AI may necessitate discussion and potential approval by the IAEA policy-making organs. To this end, close contact and interaction between the Secretariat and Member States at every stage of AI integration is crucial.
Given the importance of the issue we would appreciate if the Secretariat organized a technical briefing for all Member States on all aspects of AI implementation in the Agency’s activities.
