The reason people end up in controlling relationships or have relationship problems is because of a lack of love within themselves.
Picture this: If you are starving for love and don’t have a wellspring of love in your heart and someone comes to you and says “You want some love? Well You can have my love if you just do what I want you to do”.
If you are starving for love, you are going to do whatever you can for that love.
you are going to ACCEPT whatever other mistreatment in order to feel that small amount of love because its better than the alternative - which is no Love, or self-hate.
You can be so needy that you give your whole soul to someone if they show you a little attention.
Or, You can love so much that you don’t need anyone else’s love.
It is best that You share your love WITHOUT condition; you don’t ‘love, IF’.
Imagine you are abundant in love, + someone knocks on your door and says “hey I have love for you here. You can have my love, but you have to do whatever I want"
When you are already brimming with love, what is going to be your reaction?
You will laugh and say “Thank you, but I don’t need your love. I have the same love here in my heart even bigger and better and I share my love without condition”.
If you already love yourself enough, you do not need people's conditional love.
When you love yourself regardless of other people’s opinions or actions, you can afford to give them purer love, because you are not giving just for the sake of receiving - this is why you must care for and love yourself before you can help others - you cannot pour from an empty cup.
This broader concept applies to life in general.
When you ascribe value to what someone else has (ie their opinion), they can then control you with that.
What happens when you become needy for someone else's love?
Internally you say:
"I could never do without them"
"What will I do if they leave me?"
Having an abundance of love will mean you can never be controlled by someone that gives conditions on their love.
That is not love, that is fear.
