My conversation with Bill Gates on the topic of 'Philanthropy'

Me: Bill?
Bill Gates: Yes Sam.
Me: We need to have a little chat.
Bill: Really... Why?
Me: Well, it appears you aren't too au fait, with the term, or rather the concept of 'Philanthropy'.
Bill: Really... How do you mean?
Me: Well you see, when you are a philanthropist, you are meant to give money away to good causes and people who're deserving of it?
Bill: But that's what I have been doing, look at my Bill and Melinda Gates foundation, look how much it's given away of my money?
Me: Yes but Bill, how much profit has it made?
Bill: Well a few billion here and there... But I've got to cover the costs?
Me: What costs are you referring to exactly?
Bill: Well, most of all, the money I've given away? Those causes need to be something that will cover my costs and make me a little on top, or else what's the point?
Me: Well you see, that's not what you could call a philanthropic exercise, that's what you would call a business, wouldn't you agree?
Bill: No... Because I give money away!
Me: To companies, that will make you a return?
Bill: Correction, vaccine companies that make me a return... So I'm helping people, by giving my money away to these companies.
Me: To make a profit?
Bill: Yes.
Me: So you're running a business?
Bill: No... It's a philanthropic foundation.
Me: But you're making a profit?
Bill: Yes.
Me: Massive profits?
Bill: Oooooh God yes! I tripled my profits!
Me: You do know that your money is meant to go down, not up, when you're a philanthropist don't you?
Bill: Well that doesn't sound right?
Me: To qualify as a philanthropist, you're meant to give your money away...

Me: No Bill. Just give it away.
Bill: I don't follow?
Me: To be...

Bill: I don't get you.
Me: You're running a business Bill, you're not a philanthropist.

Bill: But how would they make any money?
Me: They don't!
