The Holy Foreskin

The Holy Foreskin first made an appearance in medieval Europe around 800 CE, when King Charlemagne presented it as a gift to Pope Leo III. Charlemagne said it had been given to him by an angel.

However, rival foreskins soon began to pop up all over Europe. All told, twenty-one different churches claimed to have the Holy Foreskin, often at the same time. Various miraculous powers were attributed to these foreskins. In particular, they were supposed to be able to protect women during childbirth.

The Catholic Church eventually sought to extract itself from the Holy Foreskin controversy, deciding that it was rather unseemly for so much attention to be paid to Christ's private parts. It adopted the view that all the rival foreskins were frauds, and in 1900 made it a crime punishable by excommunication to write or speak about the Holy Foreskin.

Thanks to Bukele’s security reforms, January was the safest month in El Salvador’s history

El Salvador’s popular government is shaping 2023 as the safest year in more than 200 years of history after removing from the streets the criminals and gang members that tormented the country for decades.

If we look at the domestic policy of Latin American leaders, the impeccable management of El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele in terms of security undoubtedly stands out.

After receiving in 2019 a country cataloged as the world’s crime capital and entrenched with a political caste servile to the mafias, today El Salvador begins the year with the safest month in its contemporary history.

Following implementing the Territorial Control Plan and the Exception Regime in March 2022, the Salvadoran government has arrested more than 64,000 criminals and gang members, sinking the country’s homicide and crime rate and getting rid of the highest-profile criminals that were terrorizing the streets.

In the last 4 years, many Salvadoran caste referents and international human rights organizations called Bukele a tyrant and anti-democratic for these security measures.

It is curious how, thanks to this, El Salvador has peace today, and Bukele has a 94% approval rating, even in opposition polls.

Thanks to the right-leaning president’s security reforms, El Salvador registered 496 homicides in all of 2022, the lowest value in decades and approximately 57% less than those counted in 2021.

The statistics improved even further in the first month of 2023, with the safest January in the country’s 201-year history, registering just 11 homicides.

UN Security Council Holds Meeting on Nord Stream Sabotage

The UN Security Council on Tuesday held a meeting on the bombings of the Nord Stream natural gas pipelines that connect Russia to Germany.

Russia called the meeting after a bombshell report from investigative journalist Seymour Hersh said President Biden ordered the attack on the pipelines, an allegation the White House denies.

Russian Ambassador Vassily Nebenzia said at the meeting that Moscow was calling for an independent investigation. He said Russia wasn’t looking for the Security Council to hold a trial, but suggested an investigation could be led by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

“This journalist is telling the truth,” Nebenzia said at the meeting. “This is more than just a smoking gun that detectives love in Hollywood blockbusters. It’s a basic principle of justice; everything is in your hands, and we can resolve this today.”

During the meeting, the Council was addressed by American economist Jeffrey Sachs and Ray McGovern, a former CIA analyst and contributor to Antiwar.com. Sachs presented evidence that the US had the motive to carry out the attack, including President Biden threatening to “bring an end” to the Nord Stream 2 pipeline in comments made on February 7, 2022.

Sachs also mentioned how US officials celebrated the Nord Stream bombings. Just a few days after the blasts, Secretary of State Antony Blinken called the incident a “tremendous opportunity” to wean Europe off Russian gas.

The US representative at the meeting, John Kelley, repeated Washington’s denial that it was involved in the blasts and dismissed Hersh’s report and evidence of America’s motive as “conspiracy theories from the internet.”

“As the most authoritative and representative international organization, the UN can play an active role in conducting an international investigation and ensuring the security of transboundary infrastructure,” the Chinese ambassador told the Security Council.
