Slavic peoples in the 8th and 9th centuries occupied vast territories, extending southward to the Byzantine Empire and westward to the kingdom of the Franks.
All of Pomerania and most of modern Germany were inhabited by Polabian Slavs. They were so called because they lived on the Elbe River, which the Slavs called Labe, and were engaged in agriculture/trade along the rivers.

Well it appears to be just the UK that're actually doing something about this? (even if that something is chatting about it and then, very likely, do absolutely nothing about it and / or, run down the clock over the 6 months we have to opt out, before this kicks in?)
We, here in the UK (but insert your own nation of choice in it's place) need to start really slamming the pressure onto our politicians, relentlessly and at all levels of governance, from your local council, to local MP, to... Well... Everyone and anyone!?
