Central Bank governor in Nigeria suspended and arrested amidst war on cash
Godwin Emefiele, the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has been suspended and arrested by Nigeria’s secret police.
The reasons for his removal and detention are still unclear. Emefiele had held his post for nine years, during which Nigeria’s currency depreciated by 65% and inflation nearly tripled.
His arrest followed an extensive investigation by the State Security Service (SSS), with allegations of financing terrorism, fraud, and economic crimes of national security dimension.

Although the International Monetary Fund (IMF) still sees potential in the e-Naira, the dismal performance so far and the arrest of its main proponent, Emefiele, may cause other African central banks to reconsider launching their own CBDCs.

I don’t think there’s much of a likelihood that we can prevent them rolling out the next stages of their plans. What each of us can decide is where we’re not willing to go. I recommend you consider the implications of mandatory digital ID & resolve not to sign up for it or not to use it if you’re simply presented with it. The reason is that it seems to be the last definitive act that the perpetrators require us to make.
They don’t need our consent to introduce CBDC. They don’t need our permission to withdraw cash or make it hard to obtain & use cash.
If those things are rolled out & widely used, no matter how much grumbling there is, we’re done. Humanity is done.
If I’m right, digital ID is the ultimate battleground.
