How I Became A Case History For Dr. Wilhelm Reich
Jean Rosenthal Harri
psychorgone.com/history/how-i-became-a-case-history-for-dr-wilhelm-reich
...
In 1950, nobody was questioning the validity of circumcision and this was a shocking position to take. Doctors routinely circumcised all baby boys, Jews and Gentiles alike, and the medical profession was solidly behind the practice. Dr. Reich gave me a small pamphlet to read called “The Barbarity of Circumcision”. It made sense. I realized it’s wrong to bring pain to a part of the body which should only be associated with pleasure. Years later, many years later, the procedure underwent new scrutiny and now more and more parents are choosing not to circumcise. At that time, it was unheard of.
We discussed the issue with my parents who were both very hurt, but they didn’t argue and they never said another word about it. We just didn’t tell Ed’s parents and they never learned till years later. We both took a lot of heat on the subject.

The decades from the 1960s to the 90s saw enlightened progress in treating newborns manifested by increased interest in natural childbirth, breastfeeding and greater acceptance of infants rooming in with the mother right from birth. We also observed a decline in male circumcision rates in the U.S. between 1979 and 2010
In recent decades, however, we’ve witnessed a skyrocketing rate of highly mechanistic, surgical instead of natural deliveries. Now, nearly one third (32.2%) of all births in the U.S. occur by Caesarean section—as high as 70% in some hospitals—up from a national average of only 4.5% in 1965. Also, citing new rationales, the U.S. government, for the first time ever, entered the fray on the subject of circumcision. The draft guidelines released December 2, 2014 by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, now recommend that doctors counsel parents and uncircumcised males on the health benefits of circumcision, based largely on studies of HIV and AIDS rates in Africa.

The Hidden History of the Foreskin: Why North America Avoids This Taboo Topic
The foreskin is a highly sensitive and functional part of the penis that is frequently removed in infant circumcision. Yet this common procedure remains shrouded in myth and misunderstanding in North American culture. This thought-provoking article illuminates the history and persisting biases surrounding circumcision, the real functions of the foreskin, what's lost in its removal, and how attitudes differ across cultures. Interweaving scientific evidence with some provocative challenges to common beliefs, it will encourage readers to think critically about circumcision practices and the psycho-sexual effects little discussed. Eye-opening for any reader, the glimpse behind the cultural curtain highlights why the foreskin should not stay such "a secret" in North America any longer. https://greenmedinfo.com/blog/foreskin-why-it-such-secret-north-america
