I cannot attest.
In electrical engineering it means charge density conductivity but in pure math it is a correlation summation, a convolution.
I've speculated that because the Greek letter Rho looks like the Roman letter Pee and the Greek letter Sigma is the equivalent of the Roman letter Ess, that it may actually signify Pee Ess as in Post Scriptum.
