Austrian intelligence raided his home and office, confiscating all his electronic devices, including those essential to his journalism. This heavy-handed action raises serious concerns about press freedom and the use of counter-terrorism measures against legitimate journalistic activities.

This is not the first time Medhurst has faced such scrutiny. In August 2024, UK authorities arrested him at Heathrow Airport, holding him for 24 hours under Section 12 of the Terrorism Act.
