Porphyry against Christianity:

Porphyry (c. 234 – c. 305 CE) was a Neoplatonist philosopher, scholar, and writer, best known as a student of Plotinus and a key figure in the transmission of Greek philosophy to later generations.

Porphyry’s philosophy was rooted in Platonism, but he incorporated elements from Aristotle, Stoicism, and Pythagoreanism.
He emphasized the ascent of the soul through philosophy and virtue, aiming at union with the divine.
He was deeply interested in ethics, metaphysics, and theology, seeing philosophy as a spiritual practice.

In a now-lost work called Against the Christians, Porphyry criticized the Christian religion, particularly its noscriptures and theological claims. This led to his works being condemned and burned under later Christian emperors.

Porphyry viewed many Christians as anti-philosophical and overly reliant on faith instead of reason. He saw their rejection of classical philosophy as an abandonment of the intellectual pursuit of truth.
He worried that Christian doctrines encouraged moral decline, not improvement, especially through ideas like original sin, divine grace, and the denigration of the body and the material world.

His works were declared dangerous: Against the Christians was condemned by Emperor Theodosius II in 435 CE, and all known copies were ordered destroyed.
Despite this, later critics of Christianity, like the 18th-century Enlightenment thinkers, sometimes echoed Porphyry’s rationalist arguments.
