Asteroid Belt: A Planet That Never Formed

This article asks the question:
Could the asteroid belt actually be a planet that never formed?

Stupid question... (then again, it's posed by stupid scientists, so what should i expect?)

is 'No!'

Now... My question is:
Could it be a planet that blew up?

Very likely, 'Yes!'
