Extra £15 on a full tank this morning, not as bad as I’d been expecting.

Just finished a job and got talking to a pair of artists who were painting a mural in Armley, Leeds.

“You’re viewing the world through a hippo’s mouth.”
I immediately raised an eyebrow but apparently the Armley hippo is something of a local icon.
In the 1850s a hippo skeleton was unearthed in the area! After dating it was determined that Armley was a popular watering hole about 150,000 years ago, a skeleton of an elephant and a now-extinct deer were also found nearby.
A local graffiti tagged uses a hippo as their logo and there’s another mural down the road.

It’s still got some work to do but I lent the lady my ladders as she was standing precariously on the far railing, over a rather large drop, trying to get a picture.
Benches are being installed later this week and it should look pretty cool, especially from the nearby block of flats.

Perhaps they did none of that, maybe they just thought they still had the luxury of safely raising a daughter in a minority-White city. Never impressing on her that she lives in an increasingly hostile environment.
