This law was intended to be temporary and highly specific, but as it has been extended again and again over the past two years, it has become essentially normalized coercion into our bureaucracy. The law grants powers - it does not install regulations. It expands the government's powers to do literally anything to citizens without naming the criteria for taking that authority or reason for declaring a state of emergency. In fact, the criterion worded is simply "fear of the spread of coronavirus". Nothing else needs to happen - “fear” is enough to grant law. And there is no oversight from Knesset only that of “a committee” that can also be waived if the concern is strong enough. In other words, they passed the ability to legislate from the Knesset to the reigning government – and lowered the supervision of the committees to a minimum and the supervision of the Knesset to non existent. Sections 6 through 12 are sections of restrictions on lifestyle, commerce, education and medicine - which are now allowed to be implemented in a shortened procedure. One of them are draconian fines and the determination of criminal offences - the definition is very broad - it can be literally anything they choose.
