#message from #ground as of 15 minutes ago:
the cops are trying to break up the march but white folks are stepping up to hold space
Seems to be enough numbers for now
Organizers are having white folks make a border around the park to help secure
A jeep swerved through a group ahead of us, unsure if anyone was hurt
We are now forming a protective bubble to keep BIPOC women safe so they can lead the march

#message from #ground:
Its been confirmed by many that Rick, the tall older black person, has been trying to disperse the unsheltered of cal park. He and some friend of his is saying theyre bringing in a militia or force today to disperse them. He brandished his handgun and threatened one of thrm today. he's being kept an eye on, he seems to come from

NOTES FROM PEOPLE'S ASSEMBLY 6/27/20:
Began about 5:30 in the center of the park. The group voted to stay in a large group format (as opposed to breaking into smaller groups as in previous days).
Sarah Tornai debriefed the group on the basics of the exchange between the Mayor’s aide (Stephanie?) and organizers/protesters just prior to the People’s Assembly.
- according to Durkan, the barricades MUST go and this is non-negotiable.
- no sweeps planned yet (we take this promise with a grain of salt)
An idea to rent a Uhaul and fill with mattresses purchased from Craig’s List to pile in front of the precinct was brought up.
The group agreed that if we were going to make the discussion about the tent encampment site, we should be including more tent encampment residents in the discussion. The decision was made to move the People’s Assembly from the field to the Tent Encampment/garden area in order to be more inclusive of the residents in a conversion about their dwellings.
The conversation shifted from protecting the precinct to preserving the tent encampment, at which time, the facilitator decided to pause the “general topic” list and hear from residents of the tent encampment about their issues.
Suggestion to have Social Services set up an information booth near the tent encampment (instead of outside of chop)
A helpful person says he needs some help with garbage- specifically keeping the areas around the dumpsters clear so that the city will continue to take trash for chop. He said he would be wearing a construction style vest, so if you can help with garbage issues, please find him.
Someone came from the Wendy’s in Atlanta that is being occupied by protesters to the Rayshard Brooks murder. Wants to remind everyone that CHOP has support all over and people are watching us to learn how to get demands met with an occupied protest.
Reminder that the Riot Kitchen is open 24/7 with hot meals served daily (check with kitchen staff about hot meal times)
food available 24 hours (may not always be a hot meal, but
