The reason they are so aggressively against direct action and disruptive protest is because it works. Extra-parliamentary action forces attention, debate and often, attempts to head off worse via compromise or even legislation.

So there's a bit of some violence in the Philippines here. After the scheduled pacifist protests last Sunday, some urban poor youth unaffiliated with most leftists started some direct action, which escalated into riots and street fighting. Repression is quite fierce on the insurrectos, but much of the Philippine left is unharmed. I'm happy to say that there's quite a bit of solidarity to the detainees. However, many of the detainees are literal children, but under a legal doctrine called discernment, they can be tried as adults. And the charges they face could land them life in prison, since one of the suggested charges is sedition. We're organizing solidarity for the detainees.

Protests continue in Peru. The "anti-government" discontent grows in an opposition that stops being only against the pension reform and shows its deep roots. It seems that the battered generation "Z" has also understood that only social struggle generates changes.
