The Internet of Things is just as artificial as the electric car market under Biden was, the only difference is that IOT isn't nearly as outwardly expensive or disruptive to everyday life, since it's very much a "boiling the frog" sort of policy, so people just accepted it and it's just a thing now. 1000 different apps for all your home appliances and possessions that all suck intentionally so you will link all your data to some bigger, Google/Amazon/Apple run ecosystem for easier data collection.
