Happy New year! (CST)

Stop and Stare
-- A personal reflection on the past 31 556 926 seconds
First off, phew!
That was, quite a year, a year beyond the expression of all but the most flamboyant rhetorics. But I'll be brief.
Bad things happened.
In fact, a lot of bad things happened in the past 365 days. The economy crashed (surprise surprise). Right-winged leaders now dominate the world stage (surprise surprise). "Worst humanitarian crisis" occurring everywhere (surprise surprise).
Top it up with the uncertainty caused by Brexit, the trade war between the US and China, and the fact that a few maniacs are driving us down some unknown, unexplored, uncharted territory known as the future.
Worse, some great minds and honored souls have left us behind and embarked on a new, exciting journey. Most notably, Dr. Hawking -- all the tribute, from Earth and possibly beyond, is all for you. Thank you for your unique view on the universe.
It makes me wonder -- why are we 'here' not 'there'.
Yet, hope is emerging, in this world of discontent and discord.
The North and South finally decided to sit down and decide whether or not they are one, inseparable nation (they are). Saudi Arabia finally decided that women are perfectly capable of driving (they are). Some random people in the EU and UN decided that refugees should be treated as if they are humans. (they are).
That was, awe-fully much, for a year.
Thank you, to all the great people of 2018. Male or female (or non-binary); alien or Terran; religious or atheist; wealthy or penurious ... thank you all, for the fabulous 2018.
Let's all take the wheel of 2019.
Thank you and happy new year.
