Since the shit with hedge funds and Wall Street Bets is in the news, I figured I'd share exactly how the stock market actually works in the USA.

When you buy stocks on the open market, you're not investing in a company, you're just buying existing stock. The money you spend goes to the previous owner of the stock you buy. The company only makes money off of a stock sale in the initial public offering. After that, it's just money people moving around a little slip of paper that represents an ennoscriptment to ongoing wealth extraction in the form of dividends. In other words, stocks mean nothing, they're not even funding the companies whose name is on the stock. It's all bullshit, and since the majority of trading prices rely on investor confidence, it also runs on Warhammer Ork logic, where everyone makes money because everyone thinks that this should be making money.
