NOAA plane found a central pressure of 909mb, generally the lower the pressure the stronger the storm and 909 is getting into the really historically powerful storms territory, and is the lowest I've ever seen in real time, Katrina was 920mb at landfall

In South America, the Amazon basin is ablaze. Halfway around the world in central Africa, vast stretches of savanna are going up in flame. Arctic regions in Siberia are burning at a historic pace. While the fires in Brazil have grown into a full-blown international crisis, they represent only one of many significant areas where wildfires are currently burning around the world. And the growing intensity of wildfires, along with their spread to places where it was once rare to see them, raises fears that climate change is exacerbating the dangers.

Here's the 12 pm EDT Tropical Cyclone Update: #Dorian still battering Grand Bahama Island. Residents there should not venture out into the eye as winds will rapidly increase on the other side http://hurricanes.gov

https://twitter.com/AnthonyFarnell/status/1168268458976526340 it looks as though Dorian has begun an eyewall replacement cycle, meaning it will temporarily weaken while the old eyewall is cleared out and the new one takes it's place, after which the wind field of hurricane force winds usually gets larger and the storms also sometimes intensify afterwards. While not good news, especially for the mainland US, it's about as good of news as you can get for the Bahamanians trapped under this thing for the next day or so
