https://twitter.com/AnthonyFarnell/status/1168268458976526340 it looks as though Dorian has begun an eyewall replacement cycle, meaning it will temporarily weaken while the old eyewall is cleared out and the new one takes it's place, after which the wind field of hurricane force winds usually gets larger and the storms also sometimes intensify afterwards. While not good news, especially for the mainland US, it's about as good of news as you can get for the Bahamanians trapped under this thing for the next day or so

Satellite and radar signaling an eye wall replacement cycle is beginning. The inner eye wall collapses and a larger outer eye wall takes over. Process takes 12-24hrs and leads to temporary weakening but also an expansion of the wind field. #hurricanedorian
