This tutorial PDF shows you how to Crack Modelling using the eXtended Finite Element Method
📌The method of extended elements permits a representation of cracks by finite elements, which does not require to change the mesh to monitor crack propagation], causing a revolution when compared with the classical methods. The discontinuity in the elements is described from enrichments functions
overlapping the elements.

This post presents a comparison of two turbulent models for evaluating the design of a stilling basin using CFD (modified USBR Type III). The results clearly demonstrate how RANS models smooth out the computed values of velocity, pressure, and surface. On the other hand, DES (Detached Eddy Simulation) is a hybrid model that combines the RANS approach near the wall region with the LES approach in the region further from the walls. The computations were carried out using OpenFOAM and isoAdvector solver, with a mesh size of 3.7 million. For the final render, Blender was used with OBJ files exported from ParaView. A Python noscript written by ChatGPT was used to import and render each file.
In the render view, you may notice large bubbles of air rising up to the water surface, which may appear unusual. This is due to air entrainment not being modeled accurately, as it requires a much finer mesh with buoyancy enabled.
