NASA has unveiled the supersonic jet X-59.
🔸The X-59 achieves supersonic speeds but, unlike other jets, it is "silent" and does not create a thunderous sound in the atmosphere. Supersonic flights over land are currently prohibited due to sonic disturbances.
🔸Under development since 2016, the X-59 can reach speeds of approximately 1,488 kilometers per hour or 1.4 Mach. With dimensions of only about 30 meters in length, 9 meters in width, and a slender design to mitigate shockwaves from supersonic flight.

🔺New discoveries by researchers in the field of superlubricity. More👇 @Solidworks2019
🔺 Superlubricity refers to a state where surfaces experience very low friction. Now, researchers at the University of Leicester have made pioneering discoveries in this field.
🔹 In the state of superlubricity, surfaces can experience friction much lower, ranging from 1000 to 10000 times less than normal friction. Additionally, in this state, contrary to the Amontons-Coulomb friction law, the frictional force does not change with an increase in the body's weight.
🔸 Now, a group of scientists led by Professor Nikolai Brilliantov has discovered that simultaneous oscillations of bodies' surfaces, caused by random vibrations of surface atoms, increase friction. These vibrations exist at any non-zero temperature and increase with temperature. This indicates that by reducing the temperature of surfaces, friction can be further reduced. With their new discoveries, researchers were able to formulate the governing laws of the superlubricity phenomenon.
Professor Brilliantov says:
Such a significant difference in common friction is interesting and requires explanation. There are other remarkable features of superlubricity, such as the unusual dependence of friction force on sliding speed, temperature, and contact surface area. All these dependencies are contrary to those predicted by traditional Amontons-Coulomb laws.
🔹 The importance of these new discoveries in this field lies in understanding the mysterious behavior of superlubricity. By reducing friction, it is possible to reduce losses in mechanical systems and transform energy efficiency in the world.
